M S-led CSK beat Punjab

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 53, and lost a wicket.

Parthiv Patel, whose 10-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15. Sixteen balls into the match, he was caught by Kumar Sangakkara. Brett Lee broke the 26-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 5.2 overs (33 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Matthew Hayden, whose 17-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 25. Twenty-two balls after Patel’s dismissal, Irfan Pathan broke the 31-run stand.

Dhoni, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by James Hopes, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

CSK scored 100 off 10.5 overs (66 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 24 balls. While the contribution of Michael Hussey, the player of the match, to the partnership was 26, Suresh Raina’s contribution to it was 25. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Raina, whose 13-ball (Wilk)innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 32. Thirty balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was caught by Pathan. Mota broke the 66-run partnership.

Hussey’s half-century – which included four boundaries and three sixes – came off 31 balls.

CSK scored 150 off 14.3 overs (88 balls). KXIP had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Jacob Oram, whose 10-ball innings included a six, scored 13. Twenty balls after Raina’s dismissal, Pathan broke the 39-run stand.

CSK scored 200 off 18 overs (109 balls).

Hussey’s ton – which included eight boundaries and seven sixes – came off 50 balls.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 22 balls. While Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 34, Subramaniam Badrinath’s contribution to it was 20. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

The Australian, whose 54-ball innings included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to nine sixes, eventually scored 116. He was unbeaten, as was Badrinath, who eventually scored 31. His 14-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes.

CSK eventually scored 240 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Piyush Chawla, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 19.

Karan Goel, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 25.

Sreesanth, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 35.

Mota, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket, as did Hopes and Lee, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 53, the latter conceded 35.

Pathan, who bowled four overs, conceded 47. He picked up a couple of scalps.

KXIP’s openers 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). CSK hadn’t conceded any extras at that point. While Goel’s contribution to the partnership was 24, Hopes’ contribution to it was 30.

Goel, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, failed to add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-five balls into the chase, he was caught by Patel. Twenty20 International debutant Manpreet Gony broke the 56-run partnership.

Hopes’ half-century – which included eight boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 24 balls.

KXIP scored 100 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 24 balls. While Hopes’ contribution to the partnership was 40, Sangakkara’s contribution to it was 10. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Hopes, whose (Amarna)thirty-three-ball innings included 10 boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 71. Twenty-seven balls after Goel’s dismissal, he was caught by Joginder Sharma. Palani broke the 55-run partnership.

KXIP scored 150 off 13.4 overs (82 balls). CSK had conceded eight extras at that point.

Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, scored 23. His 13-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes. Twenty-four balls after Hopes’ dismissal, he was caught by Amarnath. Sharma broke the 42-run stand.

Sangakkara’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 29 balls.

He eventually scored 54 off 33 balls. Twenty balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Sharma. Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 37-run stand.

KXIP scored 200 off 19.2 overs (116 balls). CSK had conceded 11 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Simon Katich, whose 17-ball innings included a six, scored 21. He was unbeaten, as was Pathan, who faced five balls, scoring three.

KXIP, who scored 207 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs, lost by 33 runs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Oram, who conceded 37, was wicketless.

Sharma, who conceded 47, picked up a wicket.

Gony and Amarnath conceded 42 each. They picked up a wicket apiece.
