MI disappointed; Shikhar-led SRH win

MI made one change to their playing (Micha)eleven – Hussey made way for Ben Dunk.

SRH made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Venugopal Rao and Ishant (Shar)made way for Naman Ojha and Irfan Pathan.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of SRH’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, and lost a couple of wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan, SRH’s skipper, scored half-a-dozen. His run-a-ball innings included a boundary. Sixteen balls into the match, he was caught by Harbhajan Singh. Zaheer Khan broke the 21-run stand.

Aaron Finch, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 16. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Dunk. Zaheer broke the 17-run stand.

SRH scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 47 balls. While Lokesh Rahul’s contribution to the partnership was 18, David Warner’s contribution to it was 27. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

SRH scored 100 off 14 overs (84 balls). MI had conceded 15 extras at that point.

Warner’s half-century – which included a boundary and three sixes – came off 41 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 74 balls. While Rahul’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Warner’s contribution to it was 56. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a dozen.

Daren Sammy, who faced four balls, scored 10. His runs came by way of boundary and a six. Four balls after Warner’s dismissal, he was caught by Kieron Pollard. Anderson broke the 12-run stand.

Rahul, whose 40-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 46. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Gautam. Lasith Malinga broke the one-run stand.

Naman, whose four-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored unbea‘ten’.

Irfan, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded 18 extras. SRH scored 172 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Pragyan Ojha, who bowled three overs, conceded 43. He was wicketless, as were Pollard and Harbhajan, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 16.

Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceded 28. He picked up a wicket.

Pollard, whose 48-ball innings included three boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 78. Three balls after Harbhajan’s dismissal, Irfan broke the four-run stand.

Gautam, who faced five balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. He was unbeaten, as was Zaheer, who faced a couple of balls, scoring a run.

SRH eventually conceded nine extras. MI, who scored 157 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 15 runs.

Amit Mishra and Karn Sharma bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 54, the latter conceded 33.

This was the last match of the first leg of the 2014 edition of the IPL, which took place in the United Arab Emirates, owing to the general election in India.

Kolkata disappointed; Watson-led RR win

KKR made three changes to their playing eleven – Chris Lynn, Yusuf Pathan, and Umesh Yadav made way for Manvinder Bisla, Shakib Al Hasan, and Vinay Kumar.

RR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Abhishek Nayar and Tim Southee made way for James Faulkner (the player of the match) and Iqbal Abdulla.

Bailey-led KXIP win; Bangalore disappointed

KXIP made no changes to their playing eleven.

RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Sachin Rana and Ravi Rampaul made way for Chris Gayle and Varun Aaron.

On winning the toss, George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, and lost four wickets.

Although his innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, Gayle had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 20. Eight balls into the (Shar)match, Sandeep, the player of the match, broke the 21-run stand.

Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, faced a couple of balls, scoring four. His runs came by way of a boundary. A couple of balls later, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Sandeep.
