Mumbai disappointed; Pietersen-led DD win

DD made one change to their playing eleven – Manoj Tiwary made way for Kedar Jadhav.

MI made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost a couple of wickets.

MI’s openers put on 10. Rohit, who faced five balls, scored four. Ten balls into the match, Mohammed Shami ran him out.

Aditya Tare, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Ten balls later, he was caught by Quinton de Kock. (Way)Needless to say, Parnell was in seventh heaven.

Corey Anderson, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Twenty balls later, he was caught by de Kock. Jaydev Unadkat broke the 22-run stand.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Fourteen ballS(huk)later, he was caught by Laxmi Ratan. Needless to say, Shahbaz Nadeem was in seventh heaven.

MI scored 50 off 10.2 overs (62 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point.

Michael Hussey, who faced 18 balls, scored 10. Twenty-four balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, Unadkat broke the 17-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, whose 30-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 33. He was unbeaten.

MI scored 100 off 17.3 overs (106 balls). DD had conceded 10 extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 40. Chidhambaram Gautam, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 22. Twenty-nine balls after Hussey’s dismissal, Nadeem and Shami ran him out.

A hundred and twenty balls (19.5 overs) into MI’s innings, Harbhajan Singh, who had scored 10 off five balls, retired hurt. His runs came by way of a boundary and a six. MI had scored 124 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point.

Zaheer Khan, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

DD eventually conceded 11 extras. MI scored 125 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Shukla, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded five.

Jean-Paul Duminy, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 13.

Shami, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 36.

Nadeem and Parnell bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 19, the latter conceded 17.

Unadkat, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, without the loss of a wicket.

De Kock, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. Forty-one balls into the chase, he was caught by Hussey. Anderson broke the 34-run stand.

Twenty-five balls into the chase, DD were awarded a penalty, because the ball struck the helmet of the fielding team.

DD scored 50 off 9.1 overs (55 balls). MI had conceded eight extras at that point.

Murali Vijay, the player of the match, scored 40. His 34-ball innings included four boundaries and a six. Thirty-three balls after de Kock’s dismissal, Rohit broke the 45-run stand.

DD scored 100 off 14.4 overs (88 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Jean-Paul Duminy, who faced 24 balls, scored 19. Eighteen balls after Vijay’s dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Apoorv Wankhade. Lasith Malinga broke the 24-run stand.

Pietersen, DD’s skipper, scored 26. His 18-ball (Kev)innings included a couple of boundaries and a six. He was unbeaten.

Dinesh Karthik, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Three balls after Duminy’s dismissal, he was caught by Rayudu. Malinga broke the two-run stand.

Jadhav, whose innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. He was unbea‘ten’.

DD, who scored 126 for the loss of four wickets off 18.5 overs, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – they won by half-a-dozen wickets.

Zaheer bowled 2.5 overs, conceding 17. He was wicketless, as were Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 23.

Rohit and Anderson bowled two overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 20, the latter conceded 16.

Malinga bowled four overs, conceding 17. He picked up two scalps.
