Kolkata disappointed; Bailey-led KXIP win

KXIP made no changes to their playing eleven.

KKR made one Cha(wla)nge to their playing eleven – Vinay Kumar made way for Piyush.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, and lost a couple of wickets.

KXIP’s openers put on nine. Cheteshwar Pujara, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Ten balls into the match, Manish Pandey ran him out.

Wriddhiman Saha, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 14. Fifteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Jacques Kallis, who broke the 19-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 5.5 overs (36 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point.

Glenn Maxwell, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Twenty-one balls after Saha’s dismissal, Morne Morkel broke the 30-run stand.

David Miller, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Morne. Chawla broke the 16-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 13.1 overs (80 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point.

George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, scored 11 off 15 balls, which included a boundary. Twenty-four balls after Miller’s dismissal, he was caught by Morne. Chawla broke the 27-run stand.

Virender Sehwag, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 37. A couple of balls (Chaw)later, the leggie broke the two-run stand.

Rishi Dhawan, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. He was unbeaten.

Axar Patel, who faced 10 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 25 balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was stumped by Robin Uthappa. Sunil Narine broke the 23-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair did not get off the mark. Mitchell Johnson, who faced a ball, did not open his account. The (Nari)next ball, the West Indian dismissed him.

The ninth-wicket pair did not get off the mark. Lakshmipathy Balaji, who faced a couple of balls, did not open his account. A couple of balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Narine.

Sandeep, the player of the (Shar)match, faced five balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

KKR eventually conceded five extras. KXIP scored 132 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Umesh Yadav, who was wicketless, conceded 28.

Kallis and Morne picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 26.

Narine and the leggie picked up three scalps apiece. While the former conceded 24, the (Chaw)latter conceded 19.

KKR scored 50 off 10.5 overs (65 balls). KKR had conceded five extras at that point.

Chris Lynn, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Thirty-six balls after Kallis’s dismissal, Axar broke the 31-run stand.

Yusuf Pathan, who faced five balls, scored three. Eight balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Rishi, who broke the nine-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair put on three. Uthappa, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. Three balls later, Bailey ran him out.

Chawla, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, he was stumped by Saha. Axar broke the three-run stand.

Narine, who faced eight balls, scored half-a-dozen. Fourteen balls later, Johnson broke the 20-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). KKR had conceded nine extras at that point.

Suryakumar Yadav, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 34. Nine balls after Narine’s dismissal, he was caught by Johnson. Sandeep broke the 18-run stand.

Umesh, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, Johnson broke the six-run stand.

Morne, who faced three balls, scored four. He was unbeaten.

KXIP eventually conceded 10 extras. KKR, who were dismissed for 109 off 18.2 overs, lost by 23 runs.

Balaji, who bowled three overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket, as did Rishi, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.

Johnson, who bowled 3.2 overs, conceded 22. He picked up a couple of wickets, as did Axar, who bowled four overs, conceding 16.

Sandeep bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 21, picking up three scalps.
