Steven shines; RR beat Mumbai

RR made no changes to their playing eleven.

MI made three changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Aditya Tare, Ambati Rayudu, and Harbhajan Singh made way for Parthiv, Unmukt Chand, and Shreyas Gopal.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 31, and lost a wicket.

Twenty-one balls into the match, MI had scored 24 without the loss of wicket. Aaron Finch – who was unbea‘ten’ at that point – retired hurt. His 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries.

Parthiv, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. Twenty-eight balls into the match, he was caught by Chris Morris. Dhawal Kulkarni broke the 27-run stand.

Rohit, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the mark. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Steven Smith, RR’s skipper and the player of the match. Stuart Binny broke the four-run stand.

Chand, whose 17-ball (Prav)innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Twenty balls later, Tambe broke the 14-run stand.

MI scored 50 off a dozen overs (72 balls). RR had conceded an extra at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While Corey Anderson’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Kieron Pollard’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Pollard’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes – came off 28 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 54 balls. While Anderson’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Pollard’s contribution to it was 70. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Pollard, whose 34-ball innings included seven boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 70. Fifty-six balls after Chand’s dismissal, he was caught by Karun Nair. Tim Southee broke the 104-run partnership.

MI scored 150 off 19.1 overs (116 balls). RR had conceded three extras at that point.

Anderson’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes – came off 37 balls.

He eventually faced 38 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Four balls after Pollard’s dismissal, Morris broke the 12-run stand.

Both Jagadeesha Suchith and Gopal faced a ball apiece, and were unbeaten. While the former didn’t get off the mark, the latter scored a run.

RR eventually conceded five extras. MI scored 164 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
