Mumbai disappointed; Dhoni-led CSK win

CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Jasprit Bumrah made way for Chidhambaram Gautam.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, and lost a couple of wickets.

Hussey had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a run. A couple of overs into the match, Ben Hilfenhaus broke the (Micha)eleven-run stand.

Aditya Tare, whose 19-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 23. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Mohit, the player of the (Shar)match, broke the 14-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 9.4 overs (58 balls). CSK hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While Corey Anderson’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Rohit’s contribution to it was 23. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

MI scored 100 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). CSK hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair eventually put on 84. Anderson, whose 31-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 39. Sixty-four balls after Tare’s dismissal, Ashwin (Ravichand)ran him out.

Rohit’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 40 balls.

He eventually faced 41 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Fourteen balls after Anderson’s dismissal, he was caught by Dwayne Smith. Hilfenhaus broke the run-a-ball stand.

Ambati Rayudu, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three balls later, he was caught by Raina. Mohit broke the two-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Three balls later, Mohit broke the two-run stand.

Although his four-ball innings included a boundary, Gautam, who was unbeaten, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Harbhajan Singh, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was caught by Brendon McCullum off the bowling of Mohit.

Although his three-ball innings included a six, Zaheer Khan, who was unbeaten, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

CSK eventually conceded an extra. MI scored 141 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 14.

Raina, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 32.

Ishwar Pandey and Ashwin bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 21, the latter conceded 20.

Hilfenhaus, who bowled four overs, conceded 39. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Mohit, who bowled four overs, conceded 14. He picked up four scalps.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, without the loss of a wicket.

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 36 balls. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple. While Smith’s contribution to it was 23, McCullum’s contribution to the partnership was 26.

The West Indian, whose 22-ball innings included four sixes, eventually scored 29. (Smi)Thirty-eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Anderson. Pragyan Ojha broke the 57-run partnership.

Raina, who faced four balls, scored a run. Eight balls later, he was stumped by Gautam. Harbhajan broke the four-run stand.  

McCullum’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 36 balls.

CSK scored 100 off 13.2 overs (80 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 47 balls. While McCullum’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Faf fu Plessis’ contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Du Plessis, who faced 25 balls, eventually scored 20. Fifty balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was stumped by Gautam. Harbhajan broke the 53-run partnership.

McCullum, whose 53-ball innings included eight boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 71. He was unbeaten, as was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, who scored 14. His 11-ball innings included a boundary and a six.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave MI no reason to be in seventh heaven.

CSK, who scored 142 for the loss of three wickets off 19 overs, won by seven wickets with an over to spare.

Pollard, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.

Anderson, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 23.

Zaheer and Lasith Malinga bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 22.

Ojha bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 25, picking up a wicket.

Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up a couple of wickets.
