DC made one change to their playing eleven – Arjun Yadav made way for
Dwaraka Ravi Teja.
On winning the toss, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, without the loss of
a wicket.
DC’s openers put on 50 off half-a-dozen overs (37 balls). RR had
conceded a couple of extras at that point. While the contribution of Adam
Gilchrist, their skipper, to the partnership was 37, Herschelle Gibbs’
contribution to it was 11.
Gibbs, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually
scored 19. Eight overs into the match, he was caught by Mahesh Rawat. Munaf
Patel broke the 61-run partnership.
Gilchrist’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a six –
came off 37 balls.
Scott Styris, whose 11-ball innings included a six, scored 13.
Twenty-six balls after Gibbs’ dismissal, he was caught by Warne. Yusuf Pathan,
the player of the match, broke the 27-run stand.
Gilchrist, whose 49-ball innings included nine boundaries, in addition
to the six, eventually scored 61. Seven balls later, he was caught by Rawat.
Siddharth Trivedi broke the nine-run stand.
DC scored 100 off 14 overs (85 balls). RR had conceded three extras at
that point.
Shahid Afridi, who faced three balls, scored a run. Five balls after
Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Munaf. Warne broke the three-run stand.
The fifth-wicket pair put on five. Rohit Sharma, who faced eight balls,
scored five. Eight balls later, Warne ran him out.
The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Sanjay Bangar, who faced
half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Four balls later, he was caught by Rawat off
the bowling of Watson.
Teja, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen.
Thirteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Warne, who broke the
21-run stand.
Venugopal Rao, whose 11-ball innings included three boundaries and a
six, scored 23. He was unbeaten.
The eighth-wicket pair put on four off as many balls. Rudra Pratap
Singh, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Rawat and Sohail Tanvir ran him
out.
Pragyan Ojha, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
RR eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. DC scored 140 for the loss
of eight wickets off 20 overs.
Tanvir bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 39.
Pathan bowled two overs, conceding 19. He picked up a wicket.
Watson and Trivedi bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.

Pathan, whose 37-ball innings included nine boundaries, in addition to
the aforementioned number of sixes, scored 68. Seventeen balls after Smith’s
dismissal, he was caught by Gibbs. Ojha broke the 24-run stand.
Mohammad Kaif, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 17. He was unbeaten, as was Watson, who scored five. His two-ball innings
included a boundary.
DC eventually conceded 11 extras. RR, who scored 141 for the loss of a
couple of wickets off 16 overs, won by eight wickets with four overs to spare.
Rao and Paidikalva Vijaykumar bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the
former conceded 15, the latter conceded 10.
Bangar, Styris and Afridi bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece.
They conceded 20, 14 and 10, respectively.
Ojha and Rudra Pratap bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 47, the latter conceded 24.
