KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Sarabjit Ladda made way for Ryan ten Doeschate and Jaydev Unadkat.
DC made no changes to their playing eleven.
On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 46, without the loss of
a wicket.
KKR’s openers put on 50 off 7.5 overs (47 balls). DC had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While the contribution of Jacques Kallis, the
player of the match, to the partnership was 30, Manvinder Bisla’s contribution
to it was 18.
Bisla, whose 21-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored
19. Fifty balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Amit
Mishra, who broke the 51-run partnership.
Kallis’ half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came
off 44 balls.
The South African eventually scored 53 off 45 balls. Twenty-five balls
after Bisla’s dismissal, he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Jean-Paul Duminy
broke the 39-run stand.
KKR scored 100 off 14 overs (84 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave DC no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Gambhir, whose 18-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 29.
Twenty-six balls after Kallis’ dismissal, Mishra broke the 43-run stand.
KKR scored 150 off 18.2 overs (110 balls). DC had conceded 10 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Manoj Tiwary, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of
sixes, scored 30. He was unbeaten.
Yusuf Pathan, whose 15-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 22.
Nineteen balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Ishank Jaggi. Dale
Steyn broke the 30-run stand.
KKR scored 163 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.
Dwaraka Ravi Teja, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded nine.

Ishant Sharma, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 27.
Pragyan Ojha, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.
Duminy, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 23. He picked up a
wicket, as did Steyn, who bowled four overs, conceding 33.
Mishra, who bowled four overs, conceded 19. He picked up a couple of scalps.
The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 30, for the loss of a
couple of wickets.
Jaggi, who faced nine balls, scored just three. Fifteen (Iq)balls into
the chase, Abdulla broke the 10-run stand.
The second-wicket pair put on five. Dhawan, whose run-a-ball (Eo)innings
included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – five balls later,
Morgan ran him out.
DC scored 50 off 8.1 overs (49 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Kumar Sangakkara, DC’s skipper, scored 16. His 15-ball innings included
a couple of boundaries. Thirty-four balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was
caught by Kallis. Rajat Bhatia broke the 38-run stand.
Duminy, who faced eight balls, scored half-a-dozen. Twenty balls later,
he was caught by Kallis. Abdulla broke the 28-run stand.
Bharat Chipli, whose 40-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries
and a six, scored 48. Ten balls later, he was caught by Kallis. Needless to
say, Bhatia was in seventh heaven.
DC scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). KKR had conceded five extras at
that point.
Christian, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of
sixes, scored 25. Sixteen balls after Chipli’s dismissal, he was caught by ten
Doeschate. Abdulla broke the 36-run stand.

balls later, Unadkat broke the 19-run stand.
Mishra, whose five-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 12.
He was unbeaten, as was Sharma, who faced a ball, scoring a run.
DC scored 150 off 20 overs (120 balls). They eventually scored 154 for
the loss of eight wickets, losing by nine runs. KKR had conceded nine extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Ten Doeschate, who bowled an over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven
– he was wicketless.
Pathan, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 22.
Lakshmipathy Balaji, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 31.
Unadkat and Bhatia bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of
wickets apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 29.
