Tendulkar-led MI beat Delhi comfortably

DD made eight changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Tillakaratne Dilshan, Gautam Gambhir, Mithun Manhas, Paul Collingwood, Dinesh Karthik, Amit Mishra, Ashish Nehra and Dirk Nannes made way for Unmukt Chand, Aaron Finch, Naman Ojha, Venugopal Rao, Irfan Pathan, Roelof van der Merwe, Morne and Ashok Dinda.

MI (Shar)made half-a-dozen changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Shikhar Dhawan, Abhishek Nayar, Saurabh Tiwary, Jean-Paul Duminy, Zaheer Khan and Dilhara Fernando made way for Davy Jacobs, Rohit, James Franklin, Rajagopal Sathish, Ali Murtaza and Munaf.

On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost three wickets.

David Warner, who faced three balls, scored a run. Eight balls into the match, Lasith Malinga, the player of the match, broke the 11-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Chand, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by Malinga.

The third-wicket pair put on 16. Sehwag, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 19. Eighteen balls later, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, ran him out.

Finch, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Ambati Rayudu. Harbhajan Singh broke the 13-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 9.4 overs (58 balls). MI had conceded an extra at that point.

Naman Ojha, whose 30-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 29. Forty-four balls after Finch’s dismissal, he was caught by Malinga. Murtaza broke the 42-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Pathan, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, Sathish and Jacobs ran him out.

Rao, whose 25-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 26. Five balls later, Malinga broke the six-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Morkel, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by Malinga.

Van der Merwe, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was unbeaten.

Umesh Yadav, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, he was stumped by Jacobs. Harbhajan broke the two-run stand.

Dinda, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the mark. Seven balls later, he was caught by Franklin. Malinga broke the five-run stand.

MI eventually conceded four extras. DD were dismissed for 95 off 17.4 overs.

Franklin, who bowled an over, conceded nine. He was wicketless, as were Patel and Kieron Pollard, who bowled three overs apiece. While the former conceded 20, the latter conceded 18.

Murtaza, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket.

Harbhajan, who bowled three overs, conceded 14. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Malinga bowled 3.4 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 13, picking up five scalps.

Jacobs, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a run. Eight balls into the chase, Morkel broke the one-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on 30. Rayudu, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Twenty-nine balls later, van der Merwe ran him out.

MI scored 50 off 10 overs (65 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave DD no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 49 balls. While the contributions of both Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, and Rohit to the partnership were 24 apiece. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Tendulkar, whose 50-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 46. He was unbeaten, as was Rohit, who eventually scored 27. His 30-ball innings included three boundaries.

DD eventually conceded 11 extras. MI, who scored 99 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 16.5 overs, won by eight wickets with 19 runs to spare.

Yadav, Finch and Dinda bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 16, 13, and seven, respectively.

Pathan, who bowled 2.5 wicketless overs, conceded 14.

Van der Merwe, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 16.

Morkel, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket.
