DD made three changes to their playing eleven – Unmukt Chand, Jeevan Mendis, and Ashish Nehra made way for Virender Sehwag, Johan Botha, and Siddarth Kaul.
SRH made one change to their playing eleven – Biplab Samantray made way
for Anand Rajan.
On winning the toss, Mahela Jayawardene, DD’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, and lost three
wixkets.
DD’s openers D(av)idnt get off the mark. Warner, who faced four balls, didn’t
open his account. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Rajan off the
bowling of Dale Steyn.
Jayawardene, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored
a dozen. Twenty-three balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Steyn. Ishant Sharma
broke the 26-run stand.
The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Sehwag, whose 10-ball
innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 12. The next ball, he was
caught by Cameron White off the bowling of Ishant.
Johan Botha, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Twenty-six
balls later, he was caught by Akshath Reddy. Rajan broke the 18-run stand.
DD scored 50 off 10.5 overs (65 balls). SRH had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Manprit Juneja, who faced 22 balls, scored 15. Twenty-eight balls after Botha’s
dismissal, he was caught by White. Amit Mishra broke the 21-run stand.
Irfan Pathan, whose 30-ball innings included a boundary, scored 23. Twenty-four
balls later, he was caught by Hanuma Vihari. Thisara Perera broke the 30-run
stand.
Kedar Jadhav, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of
sixes, scored 30. He was unbeaten.
Morne Morkel, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of
balls after Irfan’s dismissal, he was caught by Ashish Reddy. Perera broke the
one-run stand.
Shahbaz Nadeem, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls
later, Steyn broke the two-run stand.
DD scored 100 off 18.5 overs (114 balls). The number of extras they had conceded
at that point gave no reason to be in seventh heaven. That were, incidentally,
the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Umesh Yadav, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored
half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.
DD scored 114 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Rajan and Mishra picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded
20, the latter conceded 15.
Ishant, Perera and Steyn (whose spell included a maiden) bowled a couple

Kumar Sangakkara, SRH’s skipper, scored 28, His run-a-ball innings included
four boundaries. Twenty balls after Parthiv’s dismissal, he was caught by
Sehwag. Botha broke the eight-run stand.
White, who faced eight balls, scored four. Three overs later, he was stumped
by Jadhav. Nadeem broke the 15-run stand.
Vihari, whose 23-ball innings included a six, scored 17. A couple of
balls later, he was caught by Botha. Morne broke the run-a-ball stand.
Ashish Reddy, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 16. Eleven balls later, Morne broke the 18-run stand.
Thisara Perera, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Nine balls
later, he was caught by Botha. Irfan broke the 11-run stand.
SRH scored 100 off 17.3 overs (106 balls). DD had conceded three extras
at that point. That were, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Mishra, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
16. He was unbeaten, as was Steyn, who scored nine. His five-ball innings

DD, who scored 115 for the loss of seven wickets off 19.2 overs, lost by
three wickets with four balls to spare.
Kaul bowled a couple of overs, including a maiden. He conceded eight. He
was wicketless, as was Umesh, who bowled three overs, conceding 32.
Botha, who bowled three overs, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket, as
did Irfan, who bowled 3.2 overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket.
Morne and Nadeem bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps
apiece. While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 17.
