Gilchrist shines; KXIP beat Bangalore

RCB made four changes to their playing eleven – Saurabh Tiwary, Ravi Rampaul, Abhimanyu Mithun, and Murali Kartik made way for Lokesh Rahul, Arun Karthik, Zaheer Khan, and Muttiah Muralitharan.

KXIP made three (Pomersba)changes to their playing eleven – Luke, Praveen Kumar, and Harmeet Singh made way for Azhar Mahmood, Manan Vohra, and Manpreet Gony.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, and the player of the match, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, and lost a wicket.

Cheteshwar Pujara, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Twenty-five balls into the match, he was caught by David Miller. Parvinder Awana broke the 22-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 9.1 overs (55 balls). KXIP hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 49 balls. While Chris Gayle’s contribution to the partnership was 25, the contribution of Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, to it was 28. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

RCB scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Gayle’s half-century – which included three boundaries and four sixes – came off 40 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 68 balls. While Gayle’s contribution to the partnership was 53, Kohli’s contribution to it was 44. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Kohli’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 39 balls.

RCB scored 150 off 18 overs (110 balls). KXIP had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Gayle, whose 53-ball innings included four boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 77. Eighty-eight balls after Pujara’s dismissal, Awana broke the 136-run partnership.

A B de Villiers, who faced a couple of balls, scored half-a-dozen. His runs came by way of a six. A couple of balls later, Awana broke the six-run stand.

Kohli eventually scored 57 off 43 balls. Three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mahmood, who broke the two-run stand.

Moises Henriques, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

Rahul, who faced four balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Four balls later, he was caught by Mandeep Singh. Mahmood broke the eight-run stand.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave KXIP no reason to be in seventh heaven.

RCB scored 174 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Gony, Sandeep Sharma and Piyush Chawla were wicketless. They conceded 47, 36, and 27, respectively.

Mahmood conceded 24, picking up a couple of wickets.

Awana conceded 39, picking up three scalps.

Shaun Marsh, who faced four balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Fifteen balls into the chase, Khan broke the 24-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 6.5 overs (41 balls). RCB had conceded four extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 38 balls. While Gilchrist’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Mahmood’s contribution to it was 25. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.1 overs (73 balls). RCB had conceded eight extras at that point.

Gilchrist’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 41 balls.

Mahmood’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 36 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 70 balls. While Gilchrist’s contribution to the partnership was 47, Mahmood’s contribution to it was 53. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Gilchrist, whose 54-ball innings included 10 boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 85. He was unbeaten.

Mahmood eventually scored 61 off 41 balls, which included eight boundaries, in addition to the six. Seventy-seven balls after Marsh’s dismissal, he was caught by de Villiers. Jaydev Unadkat broke the 118-run partnership.

KXIP scored 150 off 16.2 overs (98 balls). RCB had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Miller, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Nine balls after Mahmood’s dismissal, Muralitharan broke the 20-run stand.

Rajagopal Sathish, whose six-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored a dozen. He was unbeaten.

KXIP, who scored 176 for the loss of three wickets off 18.1 overs, won by seven wickets with 11 balls to spare.

Henriques bowled 13 balls, conceding 29. He was wicketless, as was Vinay Kumar, who bowled four overs, conceding 35.

Muralitharan, Unadkat and Khan bowled four overs each, picking up a scalp apiece. Tey conceded 44, 34, and 30, respectively.
