KKR made one change to their playing eleven – Brad Hodge made way for
Salman Butt.
On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper and the player of the
match, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 43, and lost a wicket.
Butt, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a
boundary. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Adam Gilchrist. Vaas
broke the run-a-ball stand.
KKR scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). DC hadn’t conceded any extras at
that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Aakash Chopra’s contribution
to the partnership was nine, Ganguly’s contribution to it was 41. Extras didn’t
contribute to the partnership.
The second-wicket pair eventually scored 69. Chopra, whose 23-ball
innings included three boundaries, scored 24. Fifty-seven balls after Butt’s
dismissal, Herschelle Gibbs ran him out.
Ganguly’s half-century – which included 10 boundaries – came off 40
balls.
KKR scored 100 off 13.3 overs (81 balls). DC had conceded three extras
at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 31 balls. While Ganguly’s contribution
to the partnership was 29, David Hussey’s contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution

scored 91. Forty-eight balls after Chopra’s dismissal, he was caught by Rudra Pratap
Singh. Paidikalva Vijaykumar broke the 102-run partnership.
Hussey, whose 29-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes,
eventually scored 57. He was unbeaten.
Tatenda Taibu, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine.
Eight balls later, he was caught by Dwaraka Ravi Teja. Rudra Pratap broke the
15-run stand.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla, whose three-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. He was unbeaten.
KKR scored 200 (204 for the loss of four wickets) off 20 overs (121 balls). DC had conceded five extras at that point. In fact, that was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Sanjay Bangar, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.
Pragyan Ojha, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 25.
Scott Styris, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 28.
Venugopal Rao, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 24.
Vaas and Vijaykumar bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 36. The latter conceded 21.
Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs, conceded 59. He picked up a wicket.

was caught by Wriddhiman Saha off the bowling of Gul.

Styris, who faced 11 balls, scored just five. Eighteen balls after Teja’s
dismissal, he was caught by Shukla. Ganguly broke the 22-run stand.
Rohit Sharma, whose 24-ball innings included three boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored 33. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Ganguly.
Dinda broke the 32-run stand.
DC scored 100 off 13.1 overs (82 balls). KKR had conceded a dozen extras
at that point.
Bangar, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Fourteen balls after
Sharma’s dismissal, he was caught by Chopra. Ganguly broke the 28-run stand.

Vaas, who faced eight balls, scored nine. Twenty balls later, Shukla
broke the 38-run stand.
Rao’s half-century – which included three boundaries and five sixes –
came off 28 balls.
He eventually scored 71 off 42 balls, which included four boundaries and
half-a-dozen sixes. He was unbeaten, as was Rudra Pratap, who scored
half-a-dozen. His four-ball innings included a boundary.
KKR eventually conceded 16 extras. DC, who scored 181 for the loss of
seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 23 runs.
Murali Kartik and Ishant Sharma bowled three wicketless overs apiece.
While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 27.
Shukla bowled two overs, conceding 16. He picked up a wicket, as did
Gul, who bowled four overs, conceding 43.
Ganguly bowled four overs, conceding 25. He picked up two wickets.
Dinda bowled four overs, conceding 33. He picked up three scalps.
