M S-led CSK crush Kolkata

Neither CSK nor KKR made any changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 61, and lost three wickets.

Brendon McCullum, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 24. Fifteen balls into the match, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Jacob Oram, the player of the match, broke the 32-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ricky Ponting, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Raina off the bowling of Oram.

KKR scored 50 off five overs (31 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

Wriddhiman Saha, whose 16-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 27. Nineteen balls after Ponting’s dismissal, Manpreet Gony broke the 29-run stand.

Ganguly, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Badrinath. Joginder Sharma broke the six-run stand.

Mohammad Hafeez, whose 24-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Joginder. Amarnath broke the 28-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 14.5 overs (90 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point.

Ajit Agarkar, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Sixteen balls after Hafeez’s dismissal, he was caught by Muttiah Muralitharan. Gony broke the 23-run stand.

Murali Kartik, who faced three balls, scored as many. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Oram, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

The ninth-wicket pair put on 18. Laxmi Ratan, whose 33-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 42. (Dho)Nine balls (Shuk)later, Mahendra Singh, CSK’s skipper, and Joginder ran him out.

Ishant Sharma, who faced three balls, scored four. He was unbeaten, as was Ashok Dinda, who didn’t face a ball.

CSK eventually conceded eight extras. KKR scored 147 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Muralitharan, who conceded a dozen, was wicketless.

Joginder, who conceded 32, picked up a wicket.

Gony and Amarnath conceded 40 and 29 respectively. They picked up a couple of wickets apiece.

Oram, who bowled 32, picked up three scalps.

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 6.4 overs (41 balls). KKR had conceded 10 extras at that point. While Parthiv Patel’s contribution to the partnership was 19, Matthew Hayden’s contribution to it was 25.

Patel, whose 27-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually conceded 21. Fifty-one balls into the chase, he was caught by Ishant. Agarkar broke the 66-run partnership.

CSK scored 100 off 13.2 overs (81 balls). KKR had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Hayden’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 39 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While Hayden’s contribution to the partnership was 18, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 33. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

CSK scored 150 off 17 overs (103 balls). In fact, they scored 152 for the loss of a wicket, winning with nine wickets with three overs to spare. KKR had conceded 18 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Hayden, whose 49-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes, eventually conceded 70. He was unbeaten, as was Dhoni, who eventually scored 43. His 27-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes.

David, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.

Shukla and Hafeez bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 18, the latter conceded 16.

Kartik, Ishant and Dinda bowled three wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 33, 26, and 25, respectively.
