CSK made three changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Jacob Oram, Thilan
Thushara and Ravichandran Ashwin made way for Albie, Lakshmipathy Balaji and
Muttiah Muralitharan (the player of the match).
RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Jesse Ryder and
Balachandra Akhil made way for Jacques Kallis and Rajesh Bishnoi.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.
The match was attended by 8,829 people.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 68, without the loss of
a wicket.
CSK’s openers scored 50 off 4.5 overs (29 balls). RCB had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Parthiv Patel’s contribution to the
partnership was 18, Matthew Hayden’s contribution to it was 30.
Hayden’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 22 balls.
CSK’s openers scored 100 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). RCB had conceded 11
extras at that point. While Patel’s contribution to the partnership was 29,
Hayden’s contribution to it was 60.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. CSK’s openers had
put on 106 at that point. While Patel was batting on 30, Hayden was batting on
65.
Neither add to his aforementioned score.
Patel’s 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six.
Sixty-one balls (Kev)into the partnership, Pietersen, RCB’s skipper, broke the
106-run partnership.
The second-wicket pair D(rav)idn’t get off the mark. Hayden’s 35-ball
innings included nine boundaries and a couple of boundaries. The next ball,
Hayden ran him out.
Dhoni, whose 14-ball innings included a six, scored 16. Thirty-four
balls later, he was caught by Bishnoi. Praveen Kumar broke the 38-run stand.
CSK scored 150 off 16.4 overs (100 balls). RCB had conceded a dozen
extras at that point.
Suresh Raina, whose 29-ball innings included a boundary and a six,
scored 28. Three overs later, he was caught by Virat Kohli. Praveen broke the
21-run stand.
Andrew Flintoff, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries
and a six, scored 22. He was unbeaten.
Morkel, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. An
over after Raina’s dismissal, Dale Steyn broke the 14-run stand.
RCB eventually conceded 13 extras. CSK scored 179 for the loss of five
wickets off 20 overs.
Ross Taylor, Vinay Kumar and Kohli bowled a wicketless over apiece. They
conceded 13, a dozen, and nine, respectively.
Kallis, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 28.
Anil Kumble, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.
Pietersen, who bowled three overs, conceded 14. He picked up a wicket,
as did Steyn, who bowled four overs, conceding 35.
Praveen, who bowled four overs, conceded 37. He picked up a couple of
scalps.
The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 46, and lost a couple
of wickets.
RCB’s openers failed to get off the mark. Praveen, who faced three
balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls into the chase, he was dismissed by
Manpreet Gony.
Kallis, whose 19-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 24.
Twenty-nine balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Morkel, who broke
the 40-run stand.
Taylor, who faced four balls, scored a run. Nine balls later, Flintoff
had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he caught him off his own bowling.
Pietersen, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was trapped leg
be‘four’ wicket by Muralitharan, who broke the one-run stand.

Uthappa, whose (Dho)nineteen-ball (Rob)innings included a couple of
boundaries, scored 20. A couple of balls later, he was stumped. Muralitharan
broke the one-run stand.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RCB had scored 56
for the loss of five wickets at that point. While Dravid was batting on three,
Kohli was batting on four.
Kohli, whose 13-ball innings included a six, eventually scored 11.
Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Subramaniam Badrinath. Joginder Sharma
broke the 16-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Bishnoi, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Balaji
off the bowling of Muralitharan.
Vinay, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. Nine balls later, he
was caught by Hayden. Balaji broke the eight-run stand.
The ninth-wicket pair put on four. Steyn, who faced three balls, didn’t
get off the mark. Five balls later, Raina and Dhoni ran him out.
Dravid, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
20. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Flintoff. Balaji broke the nine-run
stand.
Kumble, who faced five balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
CSK eventually conceded five extras. RCB, who were bundled out for 87
off 15.2 overs, lost by 92 runs.
Sharma bowled an over, conceding 10. He picked up a wicket.
Morkel bowled two overs, conceding 12. He picked up a wicket.
Gony and Flintoff bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 11.
Balaji bowled 2.2 overs, conceding 18. He picked up a couple of wickets.
Muralitharan bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 11,
picking up three scalps.
