KKR made Saha changes to their playing eleven – Salman Butt, Debabrata Das, David Hussey, Wriddhiman, Umar Gul and Ajantha Mendis made way for McCullum [who was leading the team, and chose to bat (Brend)on winning the toss], Chris Gayle, Brad Hodge, Moises Henriques, Ajit Agarkar and Murali Kartik.
DC (Shar)made four changes to their playing (Fid)eleven – Shahid Afridi,
Arjun Yadav, P M Sarvesh Kumar and Paidikalva Vijaykumar made way for V V S
Laxman, Rohit, Harmeet Singh and Edwards.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 21, and lost three wickets.
McCullum, who faced three balls, scored a run. Seven balls into the
match, he was caught by Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper. Rudra Pratap Singh, the
player of the match, broke the one-run stand.
Gayle, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 10.
Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Harmeet. Rudra Pratap broke the 11-run stand.
Sourav Ganguly, who faced a dozen balls, scored a run. Ten balls later,
he was caught by Laxman. Harmeet broke the four-run stand.
Aakash Chopra, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
11. Thirty-two balls later, he was (Gilchri)stumped. Pragyan Ojha broke the
18-run stand.
Laxmi Ratan, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored eight. Ten
ballS(huk)later, he was (Gilchri)stumped. Ojha broke the 14-run stand.
KKR scored 50 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). DC had conceded four extras at
that point.
Hodge, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 31.
Nineteen balls after Shukla’s dismissal, he was caught by Herschelle Gibbs.
Scott Styris broke the 24-run stand.
Henriques, who faced eight balls, scored half-a-dozen. A couple of balls
later, he was caught by Rohit. Styris broke the one-run stand.
The eighth-wicket pair put on eight. Although his three-ball innings
included a six, Agarkar had no reason to be in seventh heaven – four balls
later, Rohit ran him out.
Kartik, who scored at a run a ball, was unbea‘ten’.
Ishant Sharma, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored nine.
Seventeen balls later, Rudra Pratap broke the 18-run stand.
KKR scored 100 off 19.3 overs (117 balls). DC had conceded five extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Ashok Dinda, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. A couple of
balls after Ishant’s dismissal, Rudra Pratap broke the two-run stand.
KKR were dismissed for 101 off 19.4 overs.
Edwards bowled four wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded
half-a-dozen.
Harmeet, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket.
Styris and Ojha bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of wickets
apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 14.
Rudra Pratap, who bowled 3.4 overs, conceded 22. He picked up four
scalps.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Gibbs’ contribution to
the partnership was 23, Rohit’s contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
DC scored 100 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Gibbs, whose 26-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 43. He was unbeaten, as was Rohit, who eventually scored 36. His 32-ball
innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes.
DC, who scored 104 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 13.1 overs, won
by eight wickets with 41 balls to spare.
Henriques bowled a wicketless ball, conceding four.
Agarkar, Gayle and Ganguly bowled a wicketless over apiece. They
conceded 17, 14, and eight, respectively.
Ishant bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 13.
Kartik bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 23.
Dinda, who bowled three overs, conceded 24. He picked up the only wicket
to fall.
