KXIP made five changes to their playinG(o)eleven – Shaun Marsh, James
Hopes, Wilkin Mota, Ramesh Powar and Sreesanth made way for Ravi Bopara, Karan,
Taruwar Kohli, Vikramjeet Malik and Yusuf Abdulla.
On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to field.
The match was delayed due to rain, as a result of which it was reduced
to a 12-overs-a-side match.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the fourth over. They scored 41, without
the loss of a wicket.
KXIP scored 50 off 4.3 overs (27 balls). DD had conceded five extras at
that point. While Bopara’s contribution to the partnership was 20, Goel’s
contribution to it was 25.
Goel, whose 21-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes,
eventually scored 38. Half-a-dozen balls into the match, he was caught by Vettori.
Yo Mahesh broke the 67-run partnership.
It was at that point that the drinks break was taken. Bopara was batting
on 22.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Bopara, whose 16-ball
innings included a couple of sixes, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. A ball
after Goel’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Vettori.
Kumar Sangakkara, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored
eight. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Nannes. Vettori broke the 10-run
stand.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 21. Yuvraj Singh, whose 11-ball innings
included a couple of sixes, scored 16. Eleven balls later, Dinesh Karthik and
Vettori ran him out.
The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mahela Jayawardene, whose
run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. A couple of balls
later, he was caught by Tillakaratne Dilshan off the bowling of Vettori.
The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Piyush Chawla didn’t face
a ball. The next ball, Manoj Tiwary ran him out.
KXIP scored 100 off 11.3 overs (69 balls). DD had conceded eight extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Irfan Pathan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen.
An over later, he was caught by Dilshan. Salvi broke the run-a-ball stand.
Kohli, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
KXIP scored 104 for the loss of seven wickets off a dozen overs.
Sangwan, who bowled two overs, conceded 19. He was wicketless, as was
Nannes, who bowled three overs, conceding 24.
Yo Mahesh and Salvi bowled a couple of overs each, picking up a wicket
apiece. While the former conceded 25, the latter conceded 17.
Vettori, who bowled three overs, conceded 15. He picked up three scalps.
As a result of rain, DD’s target was revised to 54 off half-a-dozen
overs.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the second over. They scored 28, without the loss
of a wicket.
Eleven balls into the chase, there was an interruption due to rain. DD’s
openers had scored 24 at that point. While Gautam Gambhir had scored eight, Sehwag
was batting on 14.
DD’s openers put on 50 off 4.3 overs (27 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras
at that point. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 14, Sehwag’s
contribution to it was 32.
Gambhir, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually
scored 15. He was unbeaten, as was Sehwag, who eventually scored 38. His
16-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes.
KXIP eventually conceded five extras. DD, who scored 58 without the loss
of a wicket off 4.5 overs, won by 10 wickets with seven balls to spare under
the Duckworth/Lewis method.
Chawla, who bowled five balls, conceded a dozen. He was unbeaten, as
were Abdulla, Malik, Pathan and V R V Singh, who bowled an over apiece. They
scored 19, 11, nine and five, respectively.
