RCB made four changes to their playing eleven – Mark Boucher, Shreevats Goswami, Misbah-ul-Haq and Cameron White made way for Jesse Ryder, Robin Uthappa, Ross Taylor and Kevin Pietersen (who was leading the team).
RR (Moham)made five changes to their playing eleven – the Pakistani pair
(Kamran Akmal and Sohail Tanvir), Shane Watson, Kaif and Siddharth Trivedi made
way for a couple of South Africans (Graeme Smith and Tyron Henderson), Dimitri
Mascarenhas, Mahesh Rawat and Twenty20 debutant Kamran Khan.
On winning the toss, Kevin Pietersen, RCB’s skipper, chose to bat.
RCB’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Ryder, who faced a couple of
balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls into the match, he was caught
by Rawat off the bowling of Mascarenhas.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Taylor, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Mascarenhas.
Uthappa, who faced 10 balls, scored just three. Twenty-six balls later,
he was caught by Rawat. Mascarenhas broke the 17-run stand.
RCB scored 50 off 8.1 overs (49 balls). RR had conceded an extra at that
point.
Pietersen, whose 30-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 32.
Twenty-four balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Niraj Patel. Henderson
broke the 35-run stand.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. RCB had scored 57
for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Rahul Dravid, the player of
the match, was batting on 19, Virat Kohli had scored a couple.
Virat Kohli, who faced eight balls, scored just three. Eighteen balls after
Pietersen’s dismissal, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, broke the 11-run stand.
Balachandra Akhil, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored
nine. Twenty-three balls later, Warne broke the 25-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 17.4 overs (107 balls). RR had conceded three extras
at that point.
Dravid’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 42
balls.
Praveen Kumar, whose 10-ball innings included a six, scored eight.
Twenty-three balls after Akhil’s dismissal, he was caught by Munaf Patel, who
broke the 31-run stand.
Dravid, whose 48-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six,
eventually scored 66. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Warne. Munaf
broke the six-run stand.
Vinay Kumar, who faced a couple of balls, scored eight. His runs came by
way of boundaries. He was unbeaten, as was Dale Steyn, who didn’t face a ball.
RR eventually conceded four extras. RCB scored 133 for the loss of eight
wickets off 20 overs.
Yusuf Pathan bowled a couple of overs, conceding 17. He was wicketless,
as was Khan, who faced three overs, conceding 21.
Henderson bowled four overs, conceding 30. He picked up a wicket.
Munaf bowled three overs, conceding 25. He picked up two wickets, as did
Warne, who bowled four overs, conceding 18.
Mascarenhas bowled four overs, conceding 20. He picked up three scalps.
Swapnil Asnodkar, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark.
Five balls into the chase, he was caught by Kohli. Praveen broke the two-run
stand.
Smith, who faced 11 balls, scored just a couple. Thirteen balls later,
he was caught by Dravid. Praveen broke the five-run stand.
Niraj, who faced 16 balls, scored just four. Twenty balls later, he was
caught by Anil Kumble. Needless to say, Ryder was in seventh heaven.
Henderson, whose 15-ball innings included a six, scored 11. Thirteen
balls later, Ryder broke the 14-run stand.
The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mascarenhas, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, Kohli and Uthappa ran him out.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RR had scored 32
for the loss of five wickets at that point. While Pathan had scored half-a-dozen,
Ravindra Jadeja had scored a couple.

broke the 19-run stand.

RR scored 50 off 12.2 overs (82 balls). RCB had conceded eight extras at
that point.
Warne, who faced nine balls, scored just three. Thirteen balls after
Jadeja’s dismissal, he was stumped by Uthappa. Kumble broke the six-run stand.
Although he was unbeaten, Rawat had no reason to be in seventh heaven –
he scored four.
The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Steyn, who faced a couple
of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was caught by
Steyn off the bowling of Kumble.
Khan, who faced five balls, scored three. Eight balls later, he was
caught by Uthappa. Kumble broke the five-run stand.
RCB eventually conceded nine extras. RR, who were dismissed for 58 off
15.1 overs, lost by 75 runs.
Steyn bowled a couple of overs, conceding half-a-dozen. He was wicketless,
as was Vinay, who bowled three overs, conceding 25.
Praveen, who bowled three overs, had a reason to be in seventh heaven –
he picked up a couple of wickets, as was Ryder, who bowled four overs,
conceding 14.
Kumble bowled 3.1 overs, including a maiden. He conceded five, picking
up five scalps.
