Muralitharan and Makhaya Ntini made way for Matthew Hayden, Andrew Flintoff,
Jacob Oram, Joginder, Thilan Thushara and Ravichandran Ashwin.
MI made eight changes to their playing eleven – Robin Uthappa, Dwayne
Smith, Shaun Pollock, Manish Pandey, Yogesh Takawale, Dhawal Kulkarni, Dilhara
Fernando and Ashish Nehra made way for Shikhar Dhawan, Jean-Paul Duminy, Dwayne
Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Pinal Shah, Lasith Malinga and Rohan Raje.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to
field.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 40, and lost a wicket.
Jayasuriya, whose 20-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 26.

MI scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that
point.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. MI had scored 64
for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper
and the player of the match, was batting on 21, Dhawan was batting on 16.
Dhawan, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 22.
Thirty-five balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Manpreet Gony broke the 43-run
stand.
Although his innings included a boundary, Duminy had no reason to be in
seventh heaven – he scored nine. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Gony, who
broke the 13-run stand.
MI scored 100 off 14 overs (84 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Bravo, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Half-a-dozen
balls after Duminy’s dismissal, he was caught by Hayden. Needless to say,
Sharma was in seventh heaven.
Abhishek Nayar, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries
and three sixes, scored 35. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Thushara.
Oram broke the 46-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 18.3 overs (111 balls). CSK had conceded three extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Tendulkar’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came
off 45 balls.
He eventually scored 59 off 49 balls, which included seven boundaries.
He was unbeaten.
The sixth-wicket pair put on nine. Harbhajan, who faced a couple of
balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Five balls later, Oram
ran him out.
Khan, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, he was
caught by Ashwin. Flintoff broke the four-run stand.
Shah, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
MI scored 165 for the loss of seven wickets off seven wickets off 20
overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Flintoff, Thushara, Oram and Sharma picked up a wicket apiece. They
conceded 44, 32, 30, and 25, respectively.
Gony, who conceded 32, picked up a couple of scalps.

Flintoff, who faced 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
a six, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Forty-two balls after Raina’s
dismissal, he was caught by Harbhajan, who broke the 52-run partnership.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. CSK had scored 70 for
the loss of three wickets at that point. While Hayden was batting on 30, Dhoni
hadn’t opened his account.
Hayden, whose 35-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a
six, eventually scored 44. Seventeen balls after Flintoff’s dismissal, he was
caught by Khan. Jayasuriya broke the 19-run stand.
CSK scored 100 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). MI had conceded eight extras

Oram, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored eight. Eleven balls
after Hayden’s dismissal, he was caught by Shah. Jayasuriya broke the 12-run
stand.
Subramaniam Badrinath, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the
mark. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Bravo. Malinga broke the
eight-run stand.
Dhoni, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes,
eventually scored 36. Twenty-five balls later, Malinga broke the 35-run stand.
Sharma, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. He was
unbeaten, as was Thushara, who faced a couple of balls, scoring a run.
MI eventually conceded nine extras. CSK, who scored 146 for the loss of
seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 19 runs.
Raje bowled an over, conceding 15. He was wicketless, as was Khan, who
bowled four overs, conceding 34.
Harbhajan bowled three overs, conceding 15. He picked up a wicket, as
did Bravo, who bowled four overs, conceding 27.
Jayasuriya bowled four overs, conceding 34. He picked up two wickets.
Malinga bowled four overs, conceding 15. He picked up three scalps.
