DD (Moham)made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Manoj Tiwary and Asif made way for Shoaib Malik and Pradeep Sangwan.
KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Tanmay Srivastava made
way for Ramesh Powar.
On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 68, without the loss of
a wicket.
DD’s openers put on 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). KXIP had conceded five
extras at that point. While Gautam Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership
was 34, Sehwag’s contribution to it was a dozen.
Gambhir, whose 28-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually
scored 40. Seven overs into the match, Powar broke the 75-run partnership.
Forty-nine balls (8.1 overs) into the match, there was an interruption
due to rain. DD had scored 94 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While
Sehwag was batting on 47, Shikhar Dhawan had scored a run.
This resulted in a wet ground, and the match was reduced to an
11-overs-a-side match.
DD scored 100 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). KXIP had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Dhawan, whose five-ball innings included a six, scored eight. A couple
of balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Piyush Chawla. Powar broke
the 29-run stand.
Sehwag’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and five
sixes – came off 23 balls.
He eventually scored 51 off 26 balls, and was unbeaten.
Tillakaratne Dilshan, whose half-a-dozen balls including a boundary,
scored eight. Eight balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was caught by Luke Pomersbach.
James Hopes broke the 11-run stand.
Farveez Maharoof, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of
balls later, he was caught by Powar. Hopes broke the one-run stand.
Shoaib Malik, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
KXIP eventually conceded 10 extras. DD scored 118 for the loss of four
wickets off 11 overs.
Chawla, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 13.
V R V Singh and Irfan Pathan bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece.
While the former conceded 33, the latter conceded 13.
Sreesanth, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 33.
Hopes, who bowled an over, conceded a couple. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Powar, who bowled a couple of overs, conceding 22.
KXIP’s target was revised to 89 off eight overs.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the third over. They scored 30, and lost
a couple of wickets.
Shaun Marsh, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Seven balls into the
chase, he was caught by Dhawan. Sangwan broke the three-run stand.
Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, scored 23. His eight-ball innings included
a boundary and three sixes. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Farveez Maharoof.
Glenn McGrath broke the 27-run stand.
Hopes, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. Three balls later, he
was caught by Malik. Amit Mishra broke the one-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 4.5 overs (29 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 18 balls. While Pomersbach’s contribution
to the partnership was 18, the contribution of Mahela Jayawardene, the player
of the match, to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to it was a run.
Pomersbach, whose 12-ball innings included three sixes, eventually scored
18. He was unbeaten, as was Jayawardene, who eventually scored 36. His 17-ball
innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes.
DD eventually conceded four extras. KXIP, who scored 94 for the loss of
three extras off eight overs, won by six wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis
method.
Sehwag, Maharoof and Rajat Bhatia bowled a wicketless over apiece. They
conceded 22, 11, and eight, respectively.
Sangwan, who bowled an over, conceded a dozen. He picked up a wicket, as
did Mishra and McGrath, who bowled two overs apiece. While the former conceded 21,
the latter conceded 18.
