RR made a couple of changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Dimitri Mascarenhas and Niraj made way for Swapnil Asnodkar and Sohail Tanvir.
RCB made three changes to their playing eleven – Mark Boucher, Vinay Kumar
and Dale Steyn made way for Jacques Kallis, Devraj Patil and Abdur Razzak.
On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, RCB’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, without the loss of
a wicket.
RR’s openers scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). RCB had conceded eight
extras at that point. While the contribution of Graeme, the player of the
match, to the partnership waS(mi)thirteen, Asnodkar’s contribution to it was
29.
RR’s openers scored 100 off 11 overs (67 balls). RCB had conceded 19
extras at that point. While Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 37,
Asnodkar’s contribution to it was 44.
While Asnodkar’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a
six – came off 42 balls, Smith’s half-century – which included five boundaries
and a couple of sixes – came off 34 balls.
Asnodkar, who faced 44 balls, didn’t add to the aforementioned score.
Seventy-five balls into the match, he was caught by Misbah-ul-Haq. Anil Kumble
broke the 109-run partnership.
RR’s openers scored 150 off 15.4 overs (95 balls). RCB had conceded 24
extras at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 26 balls. While Smith’s contribution
to the partnership was 18, Shane Watson’s contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was five.
Smith, whose 49-ball innings included eight boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 75. He was unbeaten, as was Watson, who eventually scored
46. His 28-ball innings included half-a-dozen extras.
RCB eventually conceded 26 extras. RR scored 197 for the loss of a
wicket off 20 overs.
Razzak and Virat Kohli bowled a couple of overs apiece. While the former
conceded 29, the latter conceded 16. They were wicketless, as were Zaheer Khan,
Kallis and Praveen Kumar, who bowled four overs apiece. They conceded 46, 39,
and 28, respectively.
Kumble, who bowled four overs, conceded 32. He picked up the only wicket
to fall.

Misbah, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, he
was caught by the substitute, Taruwar Kohli. Munaf Patel broke the two-run
stand.
Virat had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored three. Half-a-dozen
balls later, Tanvir broke the three-run stand.
Cameron White, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10.
Thirty-four balls later, he was caught by Trivedi. Patel broke the 26-run
stand.
Kallis, whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
20. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Yusuf Pathan. Trivedi broke the
nine-run stand.
RCB scored 50 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). RR had conceded four extras at
that point.
Patil, who faced a dozen balls, scored nine. Twenty balls later, after
Kallis’ dismissal, he was caught by Ravindra Jadeja. Shane Warne, RR’s skipper,
broke the 33-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Praveen, who faced
a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Mohammad Kaif
off the bowling of Warne.
Khan, who faced five balls, scored a run. Nine balls later, he was
caught by Warne, who broke the 10-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 16.5 overs (101 balls). RR had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Dravid’s half-century – which included three boundaries and five sixes –
came off 25 balls.
He eventually scored 75 off 36 balls, which included half-a-dozen
boundaries and as many sixes. He was unbeaten.
Kumble, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight.
Twenty balls after Khan’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahesh Rawat. Tanvir
broke the 35-run stand.
Razzak, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was
unbeaten.
RCB, who scored 132 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by
65 runs.
Pathan, Jadeja and Watson bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece.
They conceded 28, 21, and half-a-dozen, respectively.
Trivedi, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 23. He picked up a
wicket.
Patel, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up a couple of
wickets.
Warne and Tanvir bowled four overs each, picking up three scalps apiece.
While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 10.
