On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 57, and lost a wicket.
Jayasuriya, whose 15-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored (Sana)thirty-six. Seventeen balls into the match, he
was caught by Rudra Pratap Singh. Venugopal Rao broke the 39-run stand.
MI scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). DC had conceded an extra at that
point.
Tendulkar, whose 19-ball (Sach)innings included four boundaries, scored
23. Thirty-three balls after Jayasuriya’s (Afri)dismissal, he was caught by
Silva. Shahid broke the run-a-ball stand.
The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Dominic Thornely, who
faced 18 balls, eventually scored eight. A couple of balls later, he was
trapped leg before wicket by Afridi.
Robin Uthappa, who faced 16 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven
– 25 balls later, he was caught by Afridi. Rao broke the 24-run stand.
