RCB made four changes to their playing eleven – Jagadeesh Arunkumar,
Virat Kohli, Devraj Patil and Abdur Razzak made way for Bharat Chipli, Shreevats
Goswami (the player of the match), Balachandra Akhil and Dale Steyn.
On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 41, and lost a wicket.
Chipli, who faced 10 balls, scored just a couple. Twenty-nine balls into
the match, he was caught by Rajat Bhatia. Glenn McGrath broke the 31-run stand.
Jacques Kallis, whose 21-ball innings included three boundaries and a
six, scored 25. Eight balls later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Farveez
Maharoof broke the 10-run stand.
RCB scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at
that point.
Rahul Dravid, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine.
Twenty-nine balls after Kallis’ dismissal, Tillakaratne Dilshan broke the
32-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). DD had conceded nine extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Goswami’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six –
came off 39 balls.
He eventually scored 52 off 42 balls. Twenty-five balls after Dravid’s
dismissal, he was caught by Dilshan. Maharoof broke the 29-run stand.
Misbah-ul-Haq, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
four sixes, eventually scored 47. He was unbeaten.
The fifth-wicket pair put on three. Cameron White, who faced a couple of
balls, scored a run. Five balls after Goswami’s dismissal, Malik (the
substitute), Maharoof and Karthik ran him out.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 17. Akhil, who faced three balls, scored as
many. Ten balls later, Sehwag and Maharoof ran him out.
Praveen Kumar, who faced five balls, scored a couple. McGrath had a
reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the four-run stand.
Zaheer Khan, who faced a ball, scored a boundary. He was unbeaten.
RCB scored 154 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.
Pradeep Sangwan, who bowled three overs, conceded 51. He was wicketless,
as was Bhatia and Yo Mahesh, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former
conceded 47, the latter conceded 25.
Dilshan, who bowled an over, conceded three. He picked up a wicket.
McGrath and Maharoof bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps
apiece. While the former conceded 15, the latter conceded 13.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 71, without the loss of
a wicket.
DD’s openers put on 50 off 4.2 overs (26 balls). RCB had conceded 10
extras at that point. While Gautam Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership
was 25, Sehwag’s contribution to it was 15.
Sehwag, whose 19-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 47. Seven overs into the chase, he was caught by Chipli. Kumar broke the
90-run partnership.
DD scored 100 off nine overs (54 balls). RCB had conceded 10 extras at

In fact, the second-wicket pair had put on 10 at that point. Gambhir,
whose 31-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 39. White and Goswami
ran him out.
Dilshan, who faced 10 balls, scored just four. Twenty-six balls later,
he was stumped by Goswami. Anil Kumble broke the 21-run stand.
De Villiers, whose 25-ball innings included a boundary, scored 21. Four
balls later, he was caught by Goswami. Steyn broke the two-run stand.
Shikhar Dhawan, who faced 13-ball innings included a boundary and a six,
scored 16. He was unbeaten.
Karthik, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen.
Seven balls later, he was caught by White. The (Kumb)leggie broke the nine-run
stand.
DD scored 150 off 17.4 overs (106 balls). RCB had conceded a dozen extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Maharoof, who faced eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six,
scored 13. He was unbeaten.
DD, who scored 158 for the loss of five wickets off 18.2 overs, won by
five wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Kallis, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 16.
Khan, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 37.
Akhil, who bowled 3.2 wicketless overs, conceded 21.
Kumar, who bowled two overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket, as did
Steyn, who bowled four overs, conceding 26.
Kumble, who bowled four overs, conceded 18. He picked up two scalps.
RCB were eliminated.
