Warne-led RR advance; Kolkata disappointed

KKR made one change to their playing eleven – Shoaib Akhtar made way for his compatriot, Umar Gul.

RR made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 32, and lost a wicket.

Mohammad Hafeez, who faced eight balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Ten balls into the match, he was caught by Swapnil Asnodkar. Needless to say, Munaf Patel was in seventh heaven.

Salman Butt, whose 20-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 24. Thirty balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Patel, who broke the 33-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). RR had conceded five extras at that point. Incidentally, that was the number of extras they eventually conceded.

David Hussey, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Thirty-one balls after Butt’s dismissal, Yusuf Pathan, the player of the match, broke the run-a-ball stand.

Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, scored 32. His 34-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Mohammad Kaif. Siddharth Trivedi broke the 24-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls).

Debabrata Das, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 31. Seventeen balls after Ganguly’s dismissal, Sohail Tanvir broke the 23-run stand.

Laxmi Ratan, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 15. Three ballS(huk)later, he was caught by Asnodkar. Tanvir broke the five-run stand.

Wriddhiman, whose Saha-ball innings included a six, scored 11. He was unbeaten.

The seventh-wicket pair put on half-a-dozen. Ajit Agarkar, whose two-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Three balls after Shukla’s dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja and Mahesh Rawat ran him out.

Although his four-ball innings included a six, Gul had a reason to be in seventh heaven – half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Kaif. Tanvir broke the 13-run stand.

Ishant Sharma, who faced a ball, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

KKR scored 147 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

The Shanes were wicketless. While Warne, who bowled three overs, conceded 21, Watson, who bowled four overs, conceded 36.

Pathan, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 14. He picked up a wicket, as did Trivedi, who bowled three overs, conceding 26.

Patel bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 22, picking up a couple of wickets.

Tanvir, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost three wickets.

Asnodkar, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Twelve balls later, he was caught by Saha. Sharma broke the 16-run stand.

Tanvir, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Butt. Gul broke the 26-run stand.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Graeme Smith, whose run-a-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 24. Three dot balls later, he was caught by Saha off the bowling of Gul.

RR scored 50 off 7.5 overs (47 balls). KKR had conceded an extra at that point.

Watson, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 19. Twenty-four balls after Smith’s dismissal, Ganguly broke the 27-run stand.

RR scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Kaif’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Pathan’s contribution to it was 33. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

RR scored 150 (for the loss of four wickets) off 16.3 overs (99 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KKR no reason to be in seventh heaven. In fact, that was the number of extras they eventually conceded. Therefore, RR won by half-a-dozen wickets with 21 balls to spare.

Kaif, whose 31-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 34. He was unbeaten, as was Pathan, who eventually scored 48. His 18-ball innings included five boundaries and three sixes.

Shukla had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he bowled a wicketless over.

Agarkar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 30.

Ashok Dinda, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 32.

Ganguly, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket, as did Sharma, who bowled three overs, conceding 23.

Gul bowled 3.3 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 30, picking up a couple of scalps.

RR advanced to the playoffs.
