MI made four changes to their playing eleven – Dominic Thornely, Dwayne Bravo, Yogesh Takawale and Rohan Raje made way for Dwayne Smith, Shaun Pollock, Siddharth Chitnis and Vikrant Yeligati.
KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Ramesh Powar made way for
Tanmay Srivastava.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 43, and lost a
wicket.
James Hopes, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls into
the match, he was caught by Pinal Shah. Pollock broke the one-run stand.
KXIP put on 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). MI had conceded an extra at
that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While the contribution of
Shaun Marsh, the player of the match, to the partnership was 31, Luke
Pomersbach’s contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to the partnership
was a run.
Marsh’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six –
came off 35 balls.
KXIP put on 100 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). MI had conceded four extras
at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 69 balls. While Marsh’s contribution
to the partnership was 66, Pomersbach’s contribution to it was 30. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was four.
Pomersbach’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple
of sixes – came off 38 balls.
He eventually scored 79 off 50 balls, which included 10 boundaries and
three sixes. He was unbeaten.
Marsh, whose 56-ball innings included seven boundaries and four sixes,
eventually scored 81. Eighty-six balls after Hopes’ dismissal, he was caught by
Pollock. Chitnis broke the 133-run partnership.
Although his six-ball innings included a boundary, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s
skipper, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – a dozen balls later, he was
caught by Smith. Chitnis broke the 14-run stand.
KXIP put on 150 off 17.3 overs (105 balls). MI had conceded 10 extras at
that point.
Mahela Jayawardene, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five
balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Dilhara, who broke the (Fernan)do-run
stand.
Irfan Pathan, whose five-ball innings included a six, scored nine. He
was unbeaten.
MI eventually conceded a dozen extras. KXIP scored 189 for the loss of
four wickets off 20 overs.
Smith, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 19.
Ashish Nehra, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 34.
Vikrant Yeligati, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 43.
Pollock, who bowled three overs, conceded 14. He picked up a wicket, as
did Fernando, who bowled four overs, conceding 36.
Chitnis, who bowled four overs, conceded 40. He picked up a couple of
scalps.

Abhishek Nayar, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary and a couple
of sixes, scored 27. Twenty-eight balls after Smith’s dismissal, he was caught
by Srivastava. Chawla broke the 46-run stand.

that point.
Tendulkar, whose 46-ball innings included a dozen boundaries, eventually
scored 65. Twenty-three balls after Nayar’s dismissal, Pathan ran him out.
The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Pollock, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Chawla off the
bowling of Yuvraj.
Robin Uthappa, who faced 13 balls, scored nine. Five balls later, he was
caught by Hopes. Yuvraj broke the four-run stand.
Shah, who faced five balls, scored as many. Five balls later, he was
caught by V R V Singh. Needless to say, Sreesanth was in seventh heaven.
The eighth-wicket pair put on 13. Chitnis, whose six-ball innings
included a boundary and a six, scored 15. Three balls later, Srivastava ran him
out.
Fernando, who faced a ball, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.
The ninth-wicket pair put on three. Nehra, who faced a ball, didn’t get
off the mark. A couple of balls after Chitnis’ dismissal, Srivastava,
Jayawardene and Uday Kaul ran him out.
The last-wicket pair put on a couple. Yeligati, who faced a couple of balls,
scored as many. A couple of balls later, Yuvraj ran him out.
KXIP eventually conceded 23 extras. MI, who were dismissed for 188 off
20 overs, lost by a run.
Hopes, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 13. He was wicketless, as
was V R V and Pathan, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded
56, the latter conceded 37.
Chawla, who bowled four overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket.
Yuvraj, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 12. He picked up two scalps,
as did Sreesanth, who bowled four overs, conceding 35.
