KXIP made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Mahela Jayawardene and Tanmay Srivastava made way for Luke Pomersbach and Wilkin Mota.
RR made four changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Swapnil Asnodkar,
Ravindra Jadeja, Shane Warne and Sohail Tanvir made way for Younis Khan, Mahesh
Rawat, Dinesh Salunkhe and Munaf.
On winning the toss, Shane Watson, RR’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, without
the loss of a wicket.
KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). RR had conceded a couple
of extras at that point. While the contribution of Shaun Marsh, the player of
the match, to the partnership was 32, James Hopes’ contribution to it was 16.
Marsh’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 27 balls.
KXIP’s openers put on 100 off 10.3 overs (63 balls). RR had conceded a couple
of extras at that point. While Marsh’s contribution to the partnership was 60, Hopes’
contribution to it was 38.
Hopes’ half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off
30 balls.
He eventually scored 51 off 35 balls. Eighty-two balls into the match,
he was caught by Salunkhe. Yusuf Pathan broke the 133-run partnership.
KXIP scored 150 off 15.5 overs (95 balls). RR had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Marsh’s ton – which included 10 boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes – came
off half-a-dozen balls.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 25 balls. While the contributions
of both Marsh and Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, to the partnership were 24
apiece, extras’ contribution to it was a couple.
KXIP scored 200 off 18.2 overs (111 balls). RR had conceded four extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Marsh, whose 69-ball innings included 11 boundaries and seven sixes, eventually
scored 115. Thirty-five balls after Hopes’ dismissal, he was caught by Khan.
Watson broke the 80-run partnership.
The third-wicket pair put on eight. Yuvraj, whose 16-ball innings included
a couple of boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 49. Four balls
later, Yusuf and Watson ran him out.
Pomersbach, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
RR eventually conceded five extras. KXIP scored 221 for the loss of
three wickets off 20 overs.
Pankaj Singh and Salunkhe bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While
the former conceded 48, the latter conceded 23.
Siddharth Trivedi and Munaf bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While
the former conceded 48, the latter conceded 37.
Yusuf, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket,
as did Watson, who bowled four overs, conceding 40.

– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Mohammad Kaif, who faced five balls, scored a run. Nine balls into the chase,
Sreesanth broke the five-run stand.
Khan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three. Twenty
balls later, Irfan Pathan broke the 24-run stand.
RR scored 50 off 8.1 overs (49 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Niraj Patel’s half-century – which included 10 boundaries – came off 35
balls.
He eventually scored 57 off 39 balls. Thirty-seven balls after Khan’s
dismissal, Piyush Chawla broke the 49-run stand.
Watson, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 22.
Eight balls later, he was caught by Irfan. Chawla broke the 21-run stand.
RR scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Kamran Akmal, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and three
sixes, scored 24. Eleven balls after Watson’s dismissal, he was caught by Mota.
Chawla broke the 33-run stand.
RR scored 150 off 16.2 overs (98 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras
at that point.
Yusuf, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries and as many
sixes, scored 39. Twenty-four balls after Akmal’s dismissal, he was caught by Marsh.
Hopes broke the 39-run stand.
Rawat, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six,
scored 23. He was unbeaten.
Salunkhe, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen.
Hopes had a reason to be in seventh heaven – five balls after Yusuf’s dismissal,
he caught him off his own bowling.
Pankaj, who faced five balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
KXIP eventually conceded four extras. RR, who scored 180 for the loss of
seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 41 runs.
Yuvraj and Ramesh Powar bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the
former conceded 20, the latter had a reason to be in seventh heaven.
V R V Singh, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 32.
Sreesanth, who bowled three overs, conceded 44. He picked up a wicket,
as did Irfan, who bowled four overs, conceding 10.
Hopes, who bowled three overs, conceded 29. He picked up two wickets.
Chawla, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up three scalps.
Both the teams advanced to the playoffs.
