On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to field.
Owing to rain, the match was reduced to an 18-overs-a-side match.
The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 36, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Mark Boucher, whose 15-ball (Rob)innings included three boundaries,
scored 18. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Uthappa. Dilhara Fernando
broke the 35-run stand.
Misbah-ul-Haq, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls
later, he was caught by Tendulkar. Fernando broke the one-run stand.
Shreevats Goswami, whose 24-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20.
Seven balls later, he was caught by Ashish Nehra. Fernando broke the three-run
stand.
RCB scored 50 off 9.3 overs (57 balls). MI had conceded an extra at that
point.
Cameron White, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries and a
six, scored 26. Twenty-seven balls after Goswami’s dismissal, he was caught by
Fernando. Dwayne Smith broke the 35-run stand.
Virat Kohli, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls
later, he was caught by Yogesh Takawale. Nehra broke the two-run stand.
Rahul Dravid, RCB’s skipper, faced 16 balls, scoring 11. Five balls
later, Smith broke the six-run stand.
Balachandra Akhil, whose innings included a boundary, scored five. Three
balls later, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Smith, who broke the one-run
stand.
RCB scored 100 off 15.5 overs (96 balls). MI had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Vinay Kumar, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a
six, scored 23. Twenty-five balls after Akhil’s dismissal, he was caught by
Uthappa. Fernando broke the 39-run stand.
The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Praveen, whose 11-ball
innings included a boundary, scored eight. The next ball, Fernando and Takawale
ran him out.
Anil Kumble, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
MI eventually conceded 11 extras. RCB scored 122 for the loss of nine
wickets off 18 overs.
Kulkarni, who bowled three overs, conceded 34. He was wicketless, as was
Shaun Pollock, who bowled four overs, conceding 23.
Nehra, who bowled three overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket.
Smith, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up three wickets.
Fernando, who bowled four overs, conceded 18. He picked up four scalps.

MI’s openers put on 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). RCB had conceded a
dozen extras at that point. While Sanath Jayasuriya’s contribution to the
partnership was 25, Tendulkar’s contribution to it was 13.
Jaysuriya’s half-century – which included four boundaries and as many
sixes – came off 34 balls.
He eventually scored 54 off 37 balls. Sixty-nine balls into the chase, he
was caught by Akhil. Dale Steyn broke the 96-run partnership.
MI scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). RCB had conceded a dozen extras
at that point.
Tendulkar, whose 43-ball innings included four boundaries and a six,
eventually scored 40. He was unbeaten, as was Uthappa, who scored 19. His
16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six.
RCB eventually conceded 13 extras. MI, who scored 126 for the loss of a
wicket off 16 overs, won by nine wickets with a couple of overs to spare.
Praveen, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 21.
Vinay and Akhil bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former
conceded 25, the latter conceded 19.
Kumble, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 45.
Steyn, who bowled four overs, conceded 14. He picked up the only wicket
to fall.
