M S-led CSK trounce Hyderabad

DC (Shar)made four Cha(minda)nges to their playing eleven – Rohit, the Sri Lankan pair (Chamara Silva and Vaas) and Sanjay Bangar made way for Scott Styris, Shahid Afridi, Pragyan Ojha and P M Sarvesh Kumar.

CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 26, and lost a couple of wickets.

Herschelle Gibbs, who faced 10 balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Fourteen balls into the match, he was caught by Lakshmipathy Balaji. Makhaya Ntini broke the 11-run stand.

Gilchrist, who faced eight balls, scored five. Seven balls later, he was caught by Abhinav Mukund. Manpreet Gony broke the four-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 8.4 overs (52 balls). CSK had conceded eight extras at that point.

Styris, whose run-a-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 20. Forty balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 42-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 15.5 overs (95 balls). CSK had conceded 11 extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Venugopal Rao’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Dwaraka Ravi Teja’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Ravi Teja, whose 28-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 40. Fifty balls after Styris’ dismissal, he was caught by Mukund. Albie Morkel broke the 76-run partnership.

The fifth-wicket pair put on a run. Rao, whose run-a-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 46. The next ball, Gony and Parthiv Patel ran him out.

The sixth-wicket failed to get off the mark. Arjun Yadav, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Morkel.

Afridi, who faced a ball, scored a run. Five balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina, the player of the match. Balaji broke the 12-run stand.

Rudra Pratap Singh, who faced four balls, scored 10. His runs came by way of a boundary and a six. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Morkel. Balaji broke the one-run stand.

Ojha, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

CSK eventually conceded 16 extras. DC scored 147 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Ntini, Muralitharan and Gony picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 24, 22, and 21, respectively.

Morkel and Balaji picked up a couple of scalps apiece. They conceded 37 and 34, respectively.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, and lost a wicket.

Stephen Fleming, whose nine-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 14. Twenty balls into the chase, he was caught by Gilchrist. Paidikalva Vijaykumar broke the 26-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 6.5 overs (41 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point.

Patel, whose 27-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 20. Thirty-one balls after Fleming’s dismissal, he was caught by Afridi. Sarvesh broke the 34-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 13.2 overs (80 balls). DC had conceded 10 extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was a dozen, the contribution of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, to it was 34. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Dhoni, whose 25-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 37. Forty-one balls after Patel’s dismissal, he was caught by Gibbs. Ojha broke the 55-run partnership.

Raina’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 43 balls.

He eventually scored 54, and was unbeaten, as was Morkel, who scored a dozen. His run-a-ball innings included a boundary.

DC eventually conceded 11 extras. CSK, who scored 148 for the loss of three wickets off 19.2 overs, won by seven wickets with four balls to spare.

Afridi and Styris bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 19, the latter conceded 16.

Rudra Pratap bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 32.

Sarvesh bowled a couple of overs, conceding 18. He picked up a wicket.

Vijaykumar bowled 3.2 overs, conceding 32. He picked up a wicket.

Ojha bowled four overs, conceding 28. He picked up a wicket.
