Warne-led RR triumph over Mumbai

RR made four changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Graeme Smith, Taruwar Kohli, Dinesh Salunkhe and Munaf made way for Shane Watson, Ravindra Jadeja, Niraj Patel and Siddharth Trivedi.

MI made three changes to their playing (N)eleven – Siddharth Chitnis, Pinal Shah and Andre made way for Manish Pandey, Yogesh Takawale and Rohan Raje.

On winning the toss, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, without the loss of a wicket.

MI’s openers put on 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). RR had conceded four extras at that point. While Sanath Jayasuriya’s contribution to the partnership was 25, the contribution of Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, to it was 21.

Jayasuriya, whose 37-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 38. Eleven overs into the match, he was caught by Pankaj Singh. Trivedi broke the 71-run partnership.

Tendulkar, whose 34-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 30. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Trivedi, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

Robin Uthappa, who faced eight balls, scored three. Fifteen balls later, he was stumped by Kamran Akmal. Warne broke the 16-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). RR had conceded nine extras at that point.

Abhishek Nayar, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 25. Sohail Tanvir, the player of the match, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the nine-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Shaun Pollock, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Akmal off the bowling of his compatriot.

Pandey, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Ten balls later, Tanvir broke the 11-run stand.

Although his innings included a boundary, Dwayne Smith had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored eight. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Niraj. Tanvir broke the one-run stand.

Takawale, whose eight-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 24. He was unbeaten, as was Raje, who faced a couple of balls, scoring a run.

RR eventually conceded 13 extras. MI scored 145 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Singh, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 25. He was wicketless, as were Watson and Yusuf Pathan, who bowled three overs apiece. While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded nine.

Warne bowled four overs, conceding 30. He picked up a wicket.

Trivedi bowled four overs, conceding 31. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Tanvir bowled four overs, conceding 14. He picked up four scalps.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 36, and lost a couple of wickets.

RR’s openers put on 20. Akmal, whose 16-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 18. Nineteen balls into the chase, Pandey ran him out.

Pathan, who faced four balls, scored (Fernan)do. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Ashish Nehra. Dilhara broke the run-a-ball stand.

Swapnil Asnodkar, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 17. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Takawale. Fernando broke the 15-run stand.

RR scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 30. Mohammad Kaif, who faced 15 balls, scored a dozen. Twenty-six balls later, Jayasuriya and Raje ran him out.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Watson, whose 19-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 18. Three balls later, he was caught by Tendulkar off the bowling of Raje.

RR scored 100 off as many balls (16.4 overs). MI had conceded 10 extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Ravindra Jadeja’s contribution to the partnership was 18, Niraj’s contribution to it was 27. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Jadeja, whose 20-ball innings included a six, eventually scored 23. He was unbeaten, as was Niraj, who eventually scored 40. His 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six.

MI eventually conceded 16 extras. RR, who scored 146 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs, won by five wickets.

Nayar, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded four.

Smith and Jayasuriya bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 16, the latter conceded eight.

Nehra, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 18.

Pollock, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Raje, who bowled four overs, conceded 37. He picked up a wicket.
