KXIP made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Luke Pomersbach
and Gagandeep Singh made way for James Hopes and Irfan Pathan.
On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, and lost
a wicket.
Hopes, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13.
Nineteen balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Umar Gul,
the player of the match, who broke the 24-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 6.1 overs (37 balls). KKR had conceded eight extras
at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 38 balls. While Shaun Marsh’s contribution
to the partnership was 20, Kumar Sangakkara’s contribution to it was 32. Extras’
contribution to the partnership was three.
KXIP scored 100 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). KKR had conceded nine extras
at that point.
Marsh, whose 31-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 40. Fifty-seven balls after Hopes’ dismissal, he was

Sangakkara’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a

Chawla, Sreesanth and V R V bowled four overs each, picking up two
scalps apiece. They conceded 36, 33, and 28, respectively.
