RCB made three changes to their playing eleven – Wasim Jaffer, Dillon du Preez and Praveen Kumar made way for Ross Taylor, K P Appanna and Twenty20 debutant Abhimanyu Mithun.

Luke Ronchi, Pinal Shah and Rohan Raje made way for Sanath Jayasuriya, Yogesh
Takawale and Nanda.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper,
chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 46, and lost a wicket.
Tendulkar, who faced three balls, failed to get off the Mark. Nine balls
into the match, he was caught by Boucher. Vinay Kumar broke the five-run stand.
MI scored 50 off 6.5 overs (41 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen
extras at that point.
Jayasuriya, whose 27-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 29. (Sana)Thirty-nine
balls after Tendulkar’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by van der
Merwe, who broke the 48-run stand.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. MI had scored 67
for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Ajinkya Rahane was
batting on 28, Jean-Paul Duminy, the player of the match, had scored four.
MI scored 100 off 14.4 overs (88 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen
extras at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Rahane’s contribution
to the partnership was 25, Duminy’s contribution to it was 26. Extras didn’t contribute
to the partnership.
While Rahane’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and
a six – came off 43 balls, Duminy’s half-century – which included a boundary
and three sixes – came off 43 balls.
MI scored 150 off 19.3 overs (117 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven. That was,
incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 69 balls. While Rahane’s contribution
to the partnership was 41, Duminy’s contribution to it was 58. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
Rahane, whose 49-ball innings included four boundaries, in addition to
the six, eventually scored 62. He was unbeaten, as was Duminy, who eventually scored
59. His 41-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned
number of sixes.
MI scored 157 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 20 overs.
Appanna, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 13.
Jacques Kallis, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 23.
Mithun and Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, bowled four wicketless overs
apiece. While the former conceded 42, the latter conceded 32.
Van der Merwe, who bowled three overs, conceded 17. He picked up a
wicket, as did Vinay, who bowled four overs, conceding 30.

Ten balls later, he was caught by Duminy. Nanda broke the nine-run stand.
RCB scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). MI had conceded five extras at
that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 18. Rahul Dravid, who faced a dozen balls,
scored 10. Twenty balls after Kohli’s dismissal, Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan
Singh ran him out.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RCB had scored 58 for
the loss of four wickets at that point. While Taylor was in seventh heaven, Boucher
hadn’t opened his account.
Taylor, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored 16. A dozen
balls after Dravid’s dismissal, Malinga broke the 15-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). MI had conceded 11 extras at
that point.
Boucher, whose 33-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of
sixes, scored 48. He was unbeaten.
Van der Merwe, who faced four balls, scored three. Eight balls after
Taylor’s dismissal, he was stumped by Takawale. Harbhajan broke the 17-run stand.
Vinay, who faced a dozen balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven –
25 balls later, he was caught by Takawale. Harbhajan broke the 24-run stand.
Although he was unbeaten, Kumble, whose six-ball innings included a
boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.
MI eventually conceded 14 extras. RCB, who scored 141 for the loss of
seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 16 runs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Malinga, Nanda, Bravo and Kulkarni picked up a wicket apiece. They
conceded 37, 32, 27, and 24, respectively.
Harbhajan, who conceded 15, picked up a couple of scalps.
