DD made no changes to their playing eleven.
KKR made just one change to their playing eleven –
Ashok Dinda made way for Soumya Sarkar.
On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper,
chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost three wickets.
Brendon McCullum, who faced three balls, scored half-a-dozen. His runs
came by way of a six. Three balls into the match, Ashish Nehra had a reason to
be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Brad Hodge, who faced
three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, he was caught by A B
de Villiers off the bowling of Nehra.
Morne van Wyk, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark.
Five balls later, he was caught by Rajat Bhatia. Dirk Nannes broke the two-run
stand.
Yashpal Singh, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 13. Thirty-four balls later, he was caught by Bhatia. Amit Mishra, the
player of the match, broke the 36-run stand.
Wriddhiman Saha, who faced a ball, failed to get off the mark. Three balls
later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Mishra broke the one-run stand.
KKR scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). DD had conceded four extras at
that point.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. KKR had scored 52 for
the loss of five wickets at that point. While Sourav Ganguly was batting on 27,
Moises Henriques had scored a couple.
Henriques, who faced eight balls, didn’t add to the aforementioned score.
Twenty balls after Saha’s dismissal, he was stumped by Karthik. Mishra broke
the 10-run stand.
Ganguly, whose 45-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes,
eventually scored 44. Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by David Warner.
Nannes broke the 32-run stand.
KKR scored 100 off 17.5 overs (108 balls). DD had conceded eight extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Ajit Agarkar, whose 29-ball innings included three boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored 39. Seventeen balls after Ganguly’s dismissal, he was
caught by Mithun Manhas. Pradeep Sangwan broke the 35-run stand.
Murali Kartik, who scored 11, was unbea‘ten’.
KKR scored 123 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.
Bhatia bowled an over, conceding 13. He was wicketless, as was
Tillakaratne Dilshan, who bowled four overs, conceding 18.
Sangwan bowled three overs, conceding 32. He picked up a wicket.
Nehra and Nannes bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps
apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 15.
Mishra bowled four overs, conceding 14. He picked up three scalps.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, without the loss of
a wicket.
DD’s openers put on 50 off 6.2 overs (38 balls). The number of extras
they had conceded at that point gave KKR no reason to be in seventh heaven.
While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 18, Warner’s contribution to
it was 26.
Gambhir, whose 24-ball innings included three boundaries, didn’t add to
the aforementioned score. Forty balls into the chase, he was caught by Hodge.
Henriques broke the 53-run partnership.
Warner, whose 23-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 36. Eleven balls later, he was caught by van Wyk. Ishant Sharma broke
the 13-run stand.
Dilshan, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three balls later,
he was caught by Henriques. Sharma broke the run-a-ball stand.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. DD had scored 72 for
the loss of three wickets at that point. While de Villiers was in seventh
heaven, Karthik had scored a run.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 47 balls. While de Villiers’ contribution
to the partnership was 30, Karthik’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was three.
De Villiers, whose 32-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually
scored 40. He was unbeaten, as was Karthik, who faced 22 balls, failing to add
to the aforementioned score.
KKR eventually conceded 13 extras. DD, who scored 125 for the loss of
three wickets off 17.1 overs, won by seven wickets with 17 balls to spare.
Hodge, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded a couple.
Although he was wicketless, Sarkar had no reason to be in seventh heaven
– he conceded 19.
Agarkar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 19.
Kartik, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 20.
Henriques, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket.
Sharma, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a couple of
scalps.
As a result of this match, KKR were eliminated.
