Chennai lose to McCullum-led KKR

KKR (Shar)made four changes to their playing eleven – Mashrafe Mortaza, Yashpal Singh, Ishant and Shoaib Shaikh made way for Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Anureet Singh, Ashok Dinda and Ajantha Mendis.

CSK made one change to their playing eleven – Matthew Hayden made way for his compatriot, George Bailey.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 54, without the loss of a wicket.

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). KKR had conceded eight extras at that point. While Parthiv Patel’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Bailey’s contribution to it was 21.

CSK’s openers eventually put on 59. Patel, whose 19-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 25. Thirty-seven balls into the match, Shukla ran him out.

The second-wicket pair put on 19. Bailey, whose 27-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 30. Brad Hodge, the player of the match, ran him out.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. CSK had scored 83 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Suresh Raina had scored 14, Dhoni had scored a run.

CSK scored 100 off 12.2 overs (74 balls). KKR had conceded 14 extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

CSK scored 150 off 16.5 overs (101 balls). KKR had conceded 16 extras at that point.

Raina’s half-century – which included three boundaries and as many sixes – came off 35 balls.

He eventually scored 52 off 36 balls. Forty-seven balls after Shukla’s dismissal, Dinda broke the 74-run partnership.

Dhoni, whose 28-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 40. He was unbeaten.

Albie Morkel, whose innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 21. He was unbea‘ten’.

KKR eventually conceded 20 extras. CSK scored 188 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs.

Anureet, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 12.

David Hussey and Hodge bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 18, the latter conceded a dozen.

Murali Kartik, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 27.

Ajit Agarkar and Mendis bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 45, the latter conceded 38.

Dinda, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 56, and lost a wicket.

Sourav Ganguly, who faced 14 balls, scored just four. Twenty-eight balls into the chase, Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 34-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 5.5 overs (36 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

Brendon McCullum, KKR’s skipper, scored 50 off 21 balls, which included nine boundaries and a couple of sixes.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. KKR had scored 83 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While McCullum was batting on 65, Hodge had scored nine.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While McCullum’s contribution to the partnership was 37, Hodge’s contribution to it was nine. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

KKR scored 100 off 11.4 overs (71 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

McCullum, whose 48-ball innings included 11 boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 81. Fifty-seven balls after Ganguly’s dismissal, Shadab Jakati broke the 90-run partnership.

Patel kept wicket after 16 overs.

The third-wicket pair put on (Dho)nine. Hussey, who faced a couple of balls, scored three. Eight balls after McCullum’s dismissal, the man from Ranchi and the Sri Lankan (Muralitha)ran him out.

KKR scored 150 off 17 overs (102 balls).

Hodge’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 35 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 22 balls. While Hodge’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Wriddhiman Saha’s contribution to it was 21. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Hodge, whose 44-ball innings included four boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 71. He was unbeaten, as was Saha, who eventually scored 25. His 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six.

KKR, who scored 189 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs, won by seven wickets.

Lakshmipathy Balaji, Morkel, Sudeep Tyagi, and Raina bowled three wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 40, 39, 29, and 25, respectively.
