Delhi lose to Dhoni-led CSK

CSK made one change to their playing (Pat)eleven – Parthiv made way for Murali Vijay.

DD made a couple of changes to their playing (Dani)eleven – Virender Sehwag and Vettori made way for David Warner and Rajat Bhatia.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 53, and lost a couple of wickets.

Vijay, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Twenty-eight balls into the match, he was caught by Bhatia. Ashish Nehra broke the 36-run stand.

Matthew Hayden, whose 19-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 30. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by A B de Villiers. Pradeep Sangwan broke the 10-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). DD had conceded three extras at that point.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. CSK had scored 77 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Suresh Raina had scored 23, Subramaniam Badrinath was in seventh heaven.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Badrinath’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

CSK scored 100 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). DD had conceded three extras at that point.

Raina, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 32. Forty-one balls after Hayden’s dismissal, he was caught by Tillakaratne Dilshan. Bhatia broke the 66-run partnership.

Badrinath, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 45. Fourteen balls later, Bhatia broke the 18-run stand.

Albie Morkel, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Three balls later, he was caught by Nehra, who broke the four-run stand.

Jacob Oram had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three. A dozen balls later, he was caught by de Villiers. Dirk Nannes broke the 10-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair D(hon)idn’t get off the mark. Mahendra Singh, CSK’s skipper, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. The next ball, he was caught by Gambhir off the bowling of Nannes.

CSK scored 150 off 18.2 overs (110 balls). DD had conceded nine extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Lakshmipathy Balaji, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Seven balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was caught by de Villiers. Nehra broke the run-a-ball stand.

Shadab Jakati, the player of the match, scored 13. His eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Gambhir. Nannes broke the 11-run stand.

The last-wicket pair put on a run. Muttiah, who faced four balls, scored three. A couple of balls later, de Villiers and Dinesh Karthik (Muralitha)ran him out.

Sudeep Tyagi, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

CSK were dismissed for 163 off 20 overs.

Amit Mishra and Dilshan bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 23.

Pradeep Sangwan, who bowled three overs, conceded 41. He picked up a wicket.

Bhatia, who bowled three overs, conceded 17. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Both Nannes and Nehra bowled four overs, conceding 27, each, picking up three scalps apiece.

DD scored 50 off 6.1 overs (38 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Dilshan, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored 13. Twenty-one balls after de Villiers’ dismissal, Jakati broke the 33-run stand.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. DD had scored 77 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Warner had scored 36, Karthik was in seventh heaven.

While Warner’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 38 balls, Karthik’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 30 balls.

Warner eventually scored 51 off 40 balls. Fifty-four balls after Dilshan’s dismissal, he was stumped by Dhoni. Jakati broke the 74-run partnership.

Mithun Manhas, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, Muralitharan broke the one-run stand.

Karthik eventually scored 52 off 31 balls. Four balls later, he was caught by Muralitharan. Jakati broke the run-a-ball stand.

Sangwan, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, Jakati broke the one-run stand.

Bhatia had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a couple. An over later, he was caught by Balaji. Morkel broke the two-run stand.

Mishra, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 11. He was unbeaten, as was Nehra, who didn’t face a ball.

DD, who scored 145 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 18 runs.

Oram and Raina bowled an over apiece. While the former conceded 14, the latter had no reason to be in seventh heaven. They were wicketless, as was Balaji, who bowled three overs, conceding 26.

Morkel and Muralitharan bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 22.

Tyagi, who bowled three overs, conceded 18. He picked up a couple of wickets.
