RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Jesse Ryder and K P Appanna made way for Roelof van der Merwe and Praveen Kumar.
CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 52, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Murali Vijay, who faced nine balls, scored five. Twenty-one balls (Rob)into
the match, he was caught by Uthappa. Jacques Kallis broke the 32-run stand.
Suresh Raina, whose 10-ball innings included three boundaries, scored
13. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by van der Merwe. Kallis broke the
16-run stand.
CSK scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). RCB had conceded an
extra at that point.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. CSK had scored 72
for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Matthew Hayden was
batting on 38, Dhoni had scored a dozen.
Dhoni, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 18.
Thirty-nine balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by van der Merwe, who
broke the 45-run stand.
Hayden’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 34 balls.
CSK scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). RCB had conceded four extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Hayden eventually scored 60 off 38 balls, which included the
aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to three sixes. Seven balls
later, he was caught by Vinay Kumar. Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, broke the
eight-run stand.
Subramaniam Badrinath, who faced nine balls, scored just a couple.
Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Uthappa. Kumble broke the six-run
stand.
Although his innings included a boundary, Albie had no reason to be in
seventh heaven – he scored nine. Nine balls later, he was caught by Kumble. Praveen
broke the (Mork)eleven-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair failed to get off the Mark. Jacob Oram, who
faced 15 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – four balls later, he
was caught by Boucher off the bowling of Vinay.
Although he was unbeaten, Shadab Jakati, whose run-a-ball innings included
a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.
The eighth-wicket pair failed to get off the mark. Lakshmipathy Balaji,
who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball after Oram’s dismissal, he
was caught by Kumble off the bowling of Vinay.
The ninth-wicket pair put on four. Muttiah scored four off a couple of
balls. His runs came by way of a boundary. Half-a-dozen balls later, Praveen (Muralitha)ran
him out.
The last-wicket pair put on a run. Sudeep Tyagi didn’t face a ball. The
next ball, Balachandra Akhil and Praveen ran him out.
CSK were bundled out for 129 off 19.4 overs.
Akhil, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded a couple.
Praveen, who bowled 3.4 overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket, as
was van der Merwe, who bowled four overs, conceding 29.
Vinay, who bowled three overs, conceded 30. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Kallis and Kumble, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former,
whose spell included a maiden, conceded 18, the latter conceded a dozen.

RCB scored 50 off 8.4 overs (52 balls). CSK had conceded three extras at
that point.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RCB had scored 57 for
the loss of three wickets at that point. While Ross Taylor, the player of the match,
was batting on 26, Virat Kohli had scored 14.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 54 balls. While Taylor’s contribution
to the partnership was 16, Kohli’s contribution to it was 37. Extras didn’t contribute
to the partnership.
Kohli, whose 35-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of

was caught by Oram. Balaji broke the 56-run partnership.
Boucher, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Five
balls later, he was caught by Hayden. Muralitharan broke the run-a-ball stand.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 13. Van der Merwe, who faced half-a-dozen
balls, scored three. Nine balls after his compatriot’s dismissal, the Sri

Akhil, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls
later, he was caught by Tyagi. Oram broke the three-run stand.
Taylor, whose 50-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six,
eventually scored 46. Ten balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Oram broke the
18-run stand.
The Kumars were unbeaten. While Praveen, whose six-ball innings included
a six, scored a dozen, Vinay, whose two-ball innings included a boundary,
scored half-a-dozen.
CSK eventually conceded eight extras. RCB, who scored 132 for the loss
of eight wickets off 19.4 overs, won by a couple of wickets with a couple of balls
to spare.
Jakati, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 25.
Tyagi, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket,
as did Balaji and Muralitharan, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former
conceded 32, the latter conceded 24.
Oram, who bowled 10 balls, conceded a dozen. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Morkel, who bowled four overs, conceding 13.
