Kumble-led RCB win; Both (Hyderab)advance

RCB made no changes to their playing eleven.

DC made one change to their playing eleven – Dwaraka Ravi Teja made way for Azhar Bilakhia.

On winning the toss, Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 33, and lost a wicket.

Jacques Kallis had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just five. A couple of overs into the match, he was caught by Tirumalasetti Suman. Rudra Pratap Singh broke the seven-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 7.5 overs (47 balls). DC hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While the contribution of Manish Pandey, the player of the match, to the partnership was 27, Roelof van der Merwe’s contribution to it was 23. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Van der Merwe, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 23. Fifty-six balls after Kallis’ dismissal, he was (Gilchri)stumped by Adam, DC’s skipper. Andrew Symonds broke the 55-run partnership.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. RCB had conceded 64 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Pandey was batting on 34, Rahul Dravid had scored a run.

Pandey’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 35 balls.

RCB scored 100 off 13.2 overs (80 balls). DC had conceded an extra at that point.

Dravid, who faced nine balls, eventually scored half-a-dozen. Thirty balls later, he was caught by Herschelle Gibbs. Pragyan Ojha broke the 35-run stand.

Ross Taylor, who faced four balls, scored a run. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Rudra Pratap. Ojha broke the 27-run stand.

Pandey became the first Indian to score a ton in the IPL. His 67-ball century included 10 boundaries and three sixes.

He eventually scored 114 off 73 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to four sixes. He was unbeaten, as was Virat Kohli, who scored 19. His nine-ball innings included a couple of sixes.

DC eventually conceded a couple of extras. RCB scored 170 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Suman bowled a wicketless over, conceding 18.

Jaskaran Singh bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 32.

Ryan Harris bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 25.

Rudra Pratap and Symonds bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 47, the latter conceded 15.

Ojha bowled four overs, conceding 32. He picked up a couple of wickets.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 64, without the loss of a wicket.

DC’s openers put on 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). The number of extras they had conceded gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven. While Gilchrist’s contribution to the partnership was a dozen, Gibbs’ contribution to it was 32.

Gilchrist, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 15. Forty-one balls into the chase, he was caught by van der Merwe. Balachandra Akhil broke the 68-run partnership.

Gibbs’ half-century – which included three boundaries and four sixes – came off 32 balls.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RCB had conceded 85 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Gibbs was batting on 52, Suman was in seventh heaven.

Suman, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored a dozen. Twenty-five balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by van der Merwe. Kumble broke the 23-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). RCB had conceded 13 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Gibbs, who eventually faced 43 balls, scored 60. Nineteen balls after Suman’s dismissal, he was caught by Pandey. Akhil broke the 25-run stand.

Symonds, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 18. Half-a-dozen boundaries, van der Merwe broke the three-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 18. Venugopal Rao, who faced nine balls, scored eight. Sixteen balls later, Mark Boucher and Praveen Kumar ran him out.

Rohit Sharma, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Kohli. Kumble broke the one-run stand.

DC scored 150 off 19.2 overs (116 balls).

Bilakhia, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. He was unbeaten, as was Harris, who faced three balls, scoring four.

RCB, who scored 158 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, won by a dozen runs.

Kallis bowled a wicketless over, conceding eight.

Kohli bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 25.

Praveen bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 45.

Van der Merwe bowled four overs, conceding 32. He picked up a wicket.

Kumble and Akhil bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 18.

As a result of this match, Kings XI Punjab were eliminated, and both RCB and DC advanced to the play-offs.
