Gilchrist shines; DC beat Delhi

DC made one change to their playing eleven – Jaskaran Singh made way for Harmeet Singh.

DD made one change to their playing eleven – Aavishkar Salvi made way for Ashish Nehra.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 49, and lost a couple of wickets.

DD’s openers failed to get off the mark. Gautam Gambhir, who faced five balls, didn’t open his account. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Rudra Pratap Singh off the bowling of Ryan Harris.

The second-wicket pair D(av)idn’t get off the mark. Warner, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Herschelle Gibbs off the bowling of Rudra Pratap.

DD scored 50 off 6.2 overs (39 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While the contribution of Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, to the partnership was 27, Tillakaratne Dilshan’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. DD scored 83 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Sehwag was batting on 38, Dilshan was batting on 39.

Sehwag, whose 31-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 39. Fifty-eight balls after Warner’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Andrew Symonds, who broke the 85-run partnership.

DD scored 100 off 13.4 overs (83 balls). DC had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Dilshan’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 35 balls.

A B de Villiers, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 26. Thirty-nine balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Rudra Pratap broke the 48-run stand.

Dinesh Karthik, whose eight-ball innings included a six, scored nine. Eleven balls later, Harris broke the 12-run stand.

DD scored 150 off 19.2 overs (117 balls). DC had conceded nine extras at that point.

Rajat Bhatia, who faced a couple of balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Three balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by Venugopal Rao. Rudra Pratap broke the six-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair put on a couple. Dilshan, whose 51-ball innings included seven boundaries and a six, eventually scored 65. A couple of balls later, Suman and Gilchrist ran him out.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Amit Mishra, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, Gilchrist ran him out.

Pradeep Sangwan, who faced a ball, failed to get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

DC eventually conceded 10 extras. KXIP scored 153 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Pragyan Ojha, Rohit Sharma and Harmeet bowled three wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 27, 26, and 15, respectively.

Symonds, who bowled three overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket.

Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs, conceded 33. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Harris bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 27, picking up three scalps.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Gilchrist’s contribution to the partnership was 47, Azhar Bilakhia’s contribution to it was four. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Bilakhia, who faced 20 balls, scored just 10. Forty balls after Gibbs’ dismissal, he was stumped by Karthik. Mishra broke the 69-run partnership.

DC scored 100 off 9.1 overs (57 balls). DD had conceded five extras at that point.

Gilchrist, whose 35-ball innings included 10 boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 85. A couple of overs after Bilakhia’s dismissal, he was caught by Dirk Nannes. Mishra broke the 11-run stand.

It was at that point that the drinks break was taken. Suman had conceded a couple.

He eventually scored 24 off 25 balls, which included three boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Symonds, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 24. Twenty-two balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Warner. Mishra broke the 35-run stand.

DC scored 150 off 16.3 overs (101 balls). DD had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Sharma, who faced 11 balls, scored just five. He was unbeaten.

DC, who scored 154 for the loss of four overs off 17.4 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with 14 balls to spare.

Sehwag, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 25.

Sangwan, who bowled 16 wicketless balls, conceded 21.

Nannes and Dilshan bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 13.

Nehra, who bowled four overs, conceded 38. He picked up a wicket.

Mishra, who bowled four overs, conceded 18. He picked up three scalps.

DC advanced to the final.
