CSK made one change to their playing eleven – Joginder (Shar)made way for Manpreet Gony.
KXIP (Shar)made three changes to their playing eleven – Adrian Barath,
Bipul and Sreesanth made way for Mohammad Kaif, Rusty Theron (the player of the
match) and Ramesh Powar.
On winning the toss, Suresh Raina, CSK’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost
a wicket.
Ravi Bopara, who faced eight balls, scored a run. Seventeen balls into
the match, he was caught by Lakshmipathy Balaji. Albie Morkel broke the 18-run
stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). CSK hadn’t conceded any extras
at that point.
Kumar Sangakkara, KXIP’s skipper, scored 15. His 16-ball innings
included a couple of boundaries. Thirty-three balls after Bopara’s dismissal,
he was stumped by Parthiv Patel. Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 36-run stand.
Irfan Pathan, whose 32-ball innings included five boundaries and a six,
scored 39. Nine balls later, Balaji broke the four-run stand.
Jayawardene, who faced five balls, scored three. Seven balls (Mahe)later,
he was trapped leg before wicket by Muralitharan, who broke the six-run stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Kaif, who faced 16 balls, scored 14. Thirty-two balls after Jayawardene’s
dismissal, he was caught by Morkel. Muralitharan broke the 45-run stand.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 15. Although his nine-ball innings included
a boundary, Manvinder had no reason to be in seventh heaven – nine balls (Bis)later,
Matthew Hayden and Morkel ran him out.
The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Yuvraj Singh, whose
28-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 43. The
next ball, he was caught by the substitute, George Bailey off the bowling of
Morkel.
Piyush Chawla, who faced four balls, scored eight. His runs came by way
of boundaries. He was unbeaten.
The eighth-wicket pair put on a run. Theron – whose first name is Juan –
faced a ball, failing to get off the mark. The next ball, Raina ran him out.
Powar, who faced a ball, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.
CSK eventually conceded four extras. KXIP scored 136 for the loss of
eight wickets off 20 overs.
Justin Kemp bowled a wicketless ball, conceding a run.
Raina bowled 1.5 wicketless overs, conceding 13.
Gony bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceding 20.
Ravichandran Ashwin bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 32.
Balaji bowled four overs, conceding 29. He picked up a wicket.
Morkel bowled four overs, conceding 23. He picked up two wickets.
Muralitharan bowled four overs, conceding 16. He picked up three scalps.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 6.5 overs (42 balls). The number of extras
they had conceded at that point gave KXIP no reason to be in seventh heaven. While
Patel’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Hayden’s contribution to it was

Hayden, whose 24-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 33. Fifty-three balls into the chase, Powar broke the
65-run partnership.
The second-wicket pair put on 31. Raina, whose 11-ball innings included
a six, scored 15. Twenty-three balls later, Theron ran him out.
Murali Vijay, who faced three balls, failed to get off the mark. Three
balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by the South African, who broke The(r)one-run
stand.
CSK scored 100 off 13.3 overs (82 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at
that point.
Patel’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 53 balls.
Subramaniam Badrinath, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. An
over later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Yuvraj broke the run-a-ball stand.
Patel, whose 58-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes,
eventually scored 57. Twenty balls (Chaw)later, he was stumped by Sangakkara. The
leggie broke the 17-run stand.
Morkel, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. He
was unbeaten.
Gony, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored just a couple. Eight balls after
Patel’s dismissal, Theron broke the six-run stand.
Ashwin, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Eight balls later, he was
caught by Kaif. Pathan broke the nine-run stand.
KXIP eventually conceded 13 extras. CSK scored 136 for the loss of seven
wickets off 20 overs.
Shalabh Srivastava bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 25.
Yuvraj bowled a couple of overs, conceding 18. He picked up a wicket.
Pathan bowled three overs, conceding 22. He picked up a wicket.
Chawla and Powar bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 22.
Theron bowled four overs, conceding 17. He picked up two scalps.
As a result, the match ended in a tie, and had to be decided via a Super
Over.
While Theron bowled the Super Over for KXIP, Morkel, Hayden and Raina
faced it for KXIP.
Morkel scored a run off the first ball.
The next ball, Hayden was bowled by Theron.
Raina scored a couple of the third ball, and a six off the fourth.
He was caught by Jayawardene off the bowling of Theron for eight.
KXIP scored nine for the loss of a couple of wickets off five balls.
Therefore, RR’s target was 10.
While Muralitharan bowled the Super Over for CSK, Jayawardene, Yuvraj
and Pathan faced it for KXIP.
Jayawardene scored a six off the first ball.
The next ball, he was caught by Vijay off the bowling of Muralitharan.
The third ball – faced by Yuvraj – was a dot ball.
He scored a boundary off the fourth.
Hence, KXIP, who scored 10 for the loss of a wicket off four balls, won
the one-over eliminator.
