Delhi bea‘ten’ by Gilchrist-led DC

DC (Shar)made three changes to their playing eleven – V V S Laxman and the Singhs (Anirudh and Jaskaran) made way for Mohnish Mishra, Venugopal Rao and Rahul.

DD made three changes to their playing eleven – Tillakaratne Dilshan, Rajat Bhatia and Pradeep Sangwan made way for Moises Henriques, Yogesh Nagar and Sarabjit Ladda.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, and lost a couple of wickets.

Mohnish, who faced four balls, scored a run. Four balls into the match, his namesake, Amit Mishra, broke the three-run stand.

Gilchrist, whose 14-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 24. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik, DC’s skipper. Ladda broke the 41-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 6.3 overs (40 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Herschelle Gibbs, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 31. Twenty-seven balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Henriques. Nagar broke the 28-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 12.5 overs (78 balls).

Andrew Symonds, the player of the match, scored 35. His 24-ball innings included three boundaries and a six. Twenty-four balls after Gibbs’ dismissal, he was caught by A B de Villiers. Henriques broke the 31-run stand.

DC scored 150 off 17.3 overs (106 balls).

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 28 balls. While Rohit Sharma’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Tirumalasetti Suman’s contribution to it was 24. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Rohit, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 45. Thirty-two balls after Symonds’ dismissal, he was caught by de Villiers. Dirk Nannes broke the 60-run partnership.

Suman, whose 19-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 29. He was unbeaten.

The sixth-wicket pair put on five. Rao, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five balls after Rohit’s dismissal, de Villiers and Karthik ran him out.

Chaminda Vaas, who faced a couple of balls, scored three. He was unbeaten.

DC scored 171 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Umesh Yadav, who faced four wicketless overs, conceded 36.

Ladda, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket.

Nagar and Amit bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded a dozen.

Nannes and Henriques bowled four overs each, picking up a scalp apiece. While the former conceded 39, the latter conceded 35.

Virender Sehwag had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three. Twenty-three balls into the chase, he was caught by Gibbs. Pragyan Ojha broke the 34-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 6.1 overs (37 balls). DC hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

David Warner’s half-century – which included four boundaries and as many sixes – came off 25 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While Warner’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Tirumalasetti Suman’s contribution to it was 24. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

The second-wicket pair eventually put on 51. Warner, who faced 33 balls, eventually scored 57. Thirty-eight balls later, Rudra Pratap Singh and Gilchrist ran him out.

De Villiers, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 27. Thirteen balls later, Rahul broke the run-a-ball stand.

DD scored 100 off 13 overs (78 balls). DC had conceded an extra at that point.

Mithun Manhas, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Fifteen balls after de Villiers’ dismissal, he was caught by Suman. Rahul broke the 14-run stand.

Henriques, whose five-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Nine balls later, he was caught by Rudra Pratap. Symonds broke the 20-run stand.

DD scored 150 off 17.5 overs (107 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Karthik, whose 27-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 46. A dozen balls after Henriques’ dismissal, he was caught by Symonds, who broke the 24-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Amit, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Gilchrist off the bowling of Symonds.

Yadav, who faced three balls, scored four. He was unbeaten.

Nagar, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a run. Four balls after Amit’s dismissal, Vaas broke the two-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ladda, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, Vaas ran him out.

Nannes, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

DD, who scored 161 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 10 runs.

Rohit, who bowled an over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he was wicketless, as was Rudra Pratap, who bowled three overs, conceding 31.

Ojha and Vaas bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 21.

Rahul bowled four overs, conceded 42. He picked up two wickets.
