Sehwag-led DD triumph over Bangalore

The match was attended by 13,750 people.

RCB made three changes to their playing eleven – Jesse Ryder, Rahul Dravid and Praveen Kumar made way for Mark Boucher, Balachandra Akhil and K P Appanna.

DD made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Manoj Tiwary and Aavishkar Salvi made way for Mithun Manhas and Amit Mishra.

On winning the toss, Kevin Pietersen, RCB’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, and lost a couple of wickets.

RCB’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Jacques Kallis, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball into the match, he was dismissed by Dirk Nannes.

Robin Uthappa, who faced four balls, scored three. Seven balls later, he was caught by Pradeep Sangwan. Ashish Nehra broke the 10-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 7.3 overs (46 balls). DD had conceded three extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Pietersen’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Ross Taylor’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Pietersen, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 37. Fifty balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, Daniel Vettori broke the 62-run partnership.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. RCB had scored 74 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Taylor had scored 28, Virat Kohli had scored a run.

Taylor, whose 34-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 31. Nine balls after Pietersen’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mishra, who broke the six-run stand.

RCB scored 100 off 14.5 overs (90 balls). DD had conceded five extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 44 balls. While Kohli’s contribution to the partnership was 20, Boucher’s contribution to it was 30. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Boucher, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 36. Eight overs after Taylor’s dismissal, he was caught by Mishra. Sangwan broke the 61-run partnership.

Akhil, whose four-ball innings included a six, scored eight. He was unbeaten.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Vinay didn’t face a ball. A Ball after Boucher’s dismissal, de Villiers ran him out.

Pankaj Singh, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

DD eventually conceded 11 extras. RCB scored 149 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers conceded four overs apiece.

Vettori, Sangwan, Nannes and Mishra picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 35, 32, 24, and 19, respectively.

Nehra, who conceded 34, picked up a couple of scalps.

Although his five-ball innings included a six, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 10 balls into the chase, he was caught by Pietersen. Singh broke the 11-run stand.

Gautam Gambhir, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Boucher. Singh broke the 31-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 6.5 overs (41 balls). RCB had conceded an extra at that point.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RCB had scored 64 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Tillakaratne Dilshan, the player of the match, had scored 33, de Villiers was in seventh heaven.

De Villiers, who faced 23 balls, eventually scored 21. Forty-five balls later, Appanna broke the 42-run partnership.

DD scored 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). RCB had conceded three extras at that point.

Dinesh Karthik, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored a dozen. Fifteen balls after de Villiers’ dismissal, he was caught by Kallis. Akhil broke the 22-run stand.

Dilshan’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 39 balls.

He eventually scored 67 off 47 balls, which included five boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. He was unbeaten.

DD scored 150 (for the loss of four wickets) off 19.2 overs (116 balls). RCB had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded. DD won by half-a-dozen wickets with four balls to spare.

Manhas, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 23. He was unbeaten.

Kallis bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 37.

Vinay bowled 3.2 wicketless overs, conceding 28.

Anil Kumble bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 22.

Akhil bowled an over, conceding eight. He picked up a wicket, as did Appanna, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.

Singh bowled four overs, conceding 31. He picked up a couple of scalps.
