Yuvraj-led KXIP leave Rajasthan disappointed

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Ranadeb Bose made way for Ramesh Powar.

RR made one change to their playing eleven – Paul Valthaty made way for Swapnil Asnodkar.

On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost a couple of wickets.

KXIP’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Goel didn’t face a ball. A ball into the match, Ravindra Jadeja and Asnodkar (Ka)ran him out.

Ravi Bopara, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored (Pat)eleven. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Munaf. Kamran Khan broke the 21-run stand.

Yuvraj, who faced three balls, scored a couple. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Mahesh Rawat. Patel broke the 17-run stand.

Jayawardene, who faced 10 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 13 balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Khan. Patel broke the 10-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). RR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. KXIP had scored 60 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Kumar Sangakkara, the player of the match, had scored 21, Irfan Pathan was unbea‘ten’.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Sangakkara’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Irfan’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

KXIP scored 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Irfan, whose 33-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 39. Fifty-nine balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, Khan broke the 75-run partnership.

Sangakkara’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 47 balls.

The sixth-wicket pair had no reason to be in seventh heaven. Sangakkara, whose 51-ball innings included seven boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned six, eventually scored 60. Five balls after Irfan’s dismissal, Rawat ran him out.

Piyush Chawla, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten, as was Wilkin Mota, who faced a couple of balls, scoring a run.

RR eventually conceded 13 extras. KXIP scored 139 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Shane Warne (RR’s skipper), Yusuf Pathan and Dimitri Mascarenhas were wicketless. They conceded 37, 30 and 29, respectively.

Patel and Khan picked up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 15.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 32, and lost four wickets.

Asnodkar, who faced four balls, scored three. Seven balls into the chase, he was caught by Powar. Irfan broke the run-a-ball stand.

Graeme Smith, who faced nine balls, scored just a couple. Four balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Irfan broke the two-run stand.

Although his eight-ball innings included a boundary, Rob Quiney had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 14 balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Yusuf Abdulla broke the run-a-ball stand.

Mascarenhas, who faced a couple of balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. A couple of balls later, Abdulla broke the four-run stand.

Yusuf, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Goel. Chawla broke the nine-run stand.

Raut, who faced four balls, scored (Abhish)ek. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Powar. Chawla broke the six-run stand.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RR had scored 48 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point. While Jadeja had scored 16, Warne was batting on a couple.

RR scored 50 off 10.3 overs (63 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 47 balls. While Jadeja’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Warne’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

RR scored 100 off 17.4 overs (106 balls). KXIP had conceded nine extras at that point.

Jadeja, whose 44-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 37. Fifty-seven balls later, Abdulla broke the 60-run partnership.

Warne, whose 33-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 34. He was unbeaten, as was Rawat, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scoring four.

KXIP eventually conceded 10 extras. RR, who scored 112 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 27 runs.

Powar and Yuvraj bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 10, the latter conceded nine.

V R V Singh, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 19.

Irfan and the leggie bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of wickets apiece. While the former conceded 26, the (Chaw)latter conceded 22.
