Tendulkar-led MI beat Punjab comfortably

MI made one Ch(etany)ange to their playing eleven – Nanda made way for Rohan Raje.

KXIP made a couple of changes to their playinG(o)eleven – Mahela Jayawardene and Ramesh Powar made way for Luke Pomersbach and Karan.

On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, and lost three wickets.

Simon Katich, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. Eight balls into the match, he was caught by Harbhajan Singh, the player of the match. Dhawal Kulkarni broke the five-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on 17. Irfan Pathan, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. A dozen balls later, Dwayne Bravo ran him out.

KXIP scored 50 off 5.2 overs (34 balls). MI had conceded five extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 28. Sunny Sohal, whose 23-ball (Sach)innings included five boundaries and three sixes, scored 43. Thirteen balls after Pathan’s dismissal, Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, ran him out.

Kumar Sangakkara, who faced 19 balls, scored just eight. Twenty-two balls later, Harbhajan broke the 17-run stand.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. KXIP had scored 70 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Yuvraj was in seventh heaven, Wilkin Mota had scored a couple.

Mota had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just four. A dozen balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Harbhajan. Jean-Paul Duminy broke the run-a-ball stand.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Yuvraj, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Three balls later, he was caught by Bravo off the bowling of Duminy.

Pomersbach, who had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just five. Seventeen balls later, Ajinkya Rahane broke the 10-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 16.4 overs (102 balls). MI had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Goel, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 20. He was unbeaten.

Brett Lee, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Eighteen balls after Pomersbach’s dismissal, he was caught by Raje. Lasith Malinga broke the 17-run stand.

The ninth-wicket pair put on half-a-dozen. Piyush Chawla didn’t face a ball. The next ball, Yogesh Takawale ran him out.

Sreesanth, who faced a ball, was unbea‘ten’.

MI eventually conceded 18 extras. KXIP scored 119 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Raje and Sanath Jayasuriya bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 10, the latter conceded three.

Bravo, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 17.

Rahane, who bowled an over, conceded five. He picked up a wicket.

Kulkarni, who bowled three overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket.

Malinga and Harbhajan bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded nine.

Duminy, who bowled four overs, conceded 15. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a couple of wickets.

Jayasuriya, who scored four, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – his runs came by way of a boundary. Thirteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Mota. Lee broke the five-run stand.

Rahane, who scored five balls, scored just a run. Twenty-two balls (Chaw)later, the leggie trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the 35-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Bravo’s half-century – which included four boundaries and three sixes – came off 35 balls.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. MI had scored 74 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Bravo was batting on 55, Tendulkar had scored a dozen.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While Bravo’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Tendulkar’s contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

MI scored 100 off 12.2 overs (75 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

Bravo, whose 59-ball innings included seven boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes, eventually scored 70. He was unbeaten, as was Tendulkar, who eventually scored 41. His 29-ball innings included four boundaries and a six.

KXIP eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. MI, who scored 122 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 16.2 overs, won by eight wickets off 22 balls to spare.

Sreesanth bowled a wicketless over, conceding 21.

Goel and Yuvraj bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 16, the latter conceded 14.

Pathan bowled 3.2 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 14.

Chawla and Lee bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 25.
