RR made a couple of changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Swapnil Asnodkar and Munaf made way for Niraj Patel and Twenty20 debutant Amit Singh.
KXIP made a couple of changes to their playinG(o)eleven – Tanmay Srivastava
and Vikramjeet Malik made way for Karan and Sreesanth.
On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 57, without the loss of
a wicket.
RR’s openers put on 50 off 5.5 overs (36 balls). KXIP had conceded an
extra at that point. While Naman Ojha’s contribution to the partnership was 27,
Graeme Smith’s contribution to it was 25.
Smith’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a six – came off
26 balls.
RR’s openers put on 100 off 10.3 overs (65 balls). KXIP had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Ojha’s contribution to the partnership
was 44, Smith’s contribution to it was 54.
Ojha’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes –
came off 41 balls.
Smith, whose 44-ball innings included a dozen boundaries, in addition to
the six, eventually scored 77. Ninety-one balls into the match, he was caught
by Piyush Chawla. Ramesh broke the 135-run P(ow)artnership.
RR scored 150 off 16 overs (98 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Although his innings included a boundary and a six, Yusuf Pathan had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored a dozen. Nine balls after Smith, he
was caught by Goel. Chawla broke the 18-run stand.
Ojha, whose 51-ball innings included the aforementioned number of
boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 68. Four balls (Chaw)later, he
was caught by Simon Katich. The leggie broke the 11-run stand.
RR scored 200 off 19 overs (118 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Ravindra Jadeja, whose 12-ball innings included five boundaries and a
six, scored 33. Fourteen balls after Ojha’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahela
Jayawardene. Yusuf broke the 39-run stand.
Lee Carseldine, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 16. He was unbeaten, as was Raut, who faced (Abhish)ek ball, scoring
as many.
RR scored 211 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.
Goel and Yuvraj bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former
conceded 11, the latter conceded nine.
Yusuf Abdulla, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 44.
Sreesanth, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 44.
Powar, who bowled four overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket, as did
Irfan, who bowled four overs, conceding 40.
Chawla, who bowled four overs, conceded 33. He picked up a couple of
scalps.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, and lost
four wickets.
KXIP’s openers did not get off the mark. Sunny Sohal, who faced a ball, didn’t
open his account. A ball into the chase, he was caught by Shane Warne, RR’s
skipper, off the bowling of Amit.
Goel, who faced four balls, scored a run. Five balls later, he was
caught by Shane Harwood. Amit broke the two-run stand.
Katich, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
10. Four overs later, Siddharth Trivedi broke the 23-run stand.
Kumar Sangakkara, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 11. An over later, he was stumped by Ojha. Yusuf Pathan broke the
four-run stand.
Jayawardene, whose 11-ball innings included a six, scored nine. Ten
balls later, he was caught by Trivedi. Harwood broke the 10-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). RR had conceded a dozen extras
at that point.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. KXIP had scored 53
for the loss of five wickets at that point. Both Yuvraj and Irfan had scored
four apiece.
Irfan, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually
scored 19. Thirty-five balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was trapped leg
before wicket by Warne, who broke the 48-run stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). RR had conceded 17 extras at
that point.
Although his innings included a boundary, Chawla had no reason to be in
seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Thirteen balls after Irfan’s
dismissal, he was caught by Jadeja. Warne broke the 17-run stand.
Yuvraj, whose 37-ball innings included three boundaries and as many
sixes, eventually scored 48. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Harwood. Amit
broke the 23-run stand.
Powar, who faced seven balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten, as
was Sreesanth, who faced eight balls, scoring four. His runs came by way of a
boundary.
RR eventually conceded 19 extras. KXIP, who scored 133 for the loss of
eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 78 runs.
Jadeja, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded half-a-dozen.
Pathan, Harwood and Trivedi bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket.
They conceded 28, 26, and 20, respectively.
Warne, who bowled three overs, conceded 38. He picked up a couple of wickets.
Amit, who bowled four overs, conceded nine. He picked up three scalps.
