Gambhir shines; DD thrash Kolkata

KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Chris Gayle and Laxmi Ratan Shukla made way for Moises Henriques and Yashpal Singh.

DD made no changes to their playing eleven.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 54, without the loss of a wicket.

KKR’s openers put on 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). DD had conceded three extras at that point. While Morne van Wyk’s contribution to the partnership was 18, McCullum’s contribution to it was 30.

McCullum, whose 29-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, eventually scored 35. Seven overs into the match, he was caught by Pradeep Sangwan. Ashish Nehra broke the 58-run partnership.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. KKR had scored 69 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While van Wyk was batting on 25, Brad Hodge had scored half-a-dozen.

Van Wyk’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 32 balls.

Hodge, who faced 19 balls, eventually scored 10. Half-a-dozen balls after McCullum’s dismissal, he was caught by A B de Villiers. Sangwan broke the 40-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 14.2 overs (87 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Van Wyk, whose 48-ball innings included 11 boundaries, eventually scored 74. Thirty balls after Hodge’s dismissal, Nehra broke the 49-run partnership.

KKR scored 150 off 19.5 overs (120 balls).

Henriques, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 30. He was unbeaten, as was Wriddhiman Saha, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

KKR eventually scored 154 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Dirk Nannes, Rajat Bhatia, and Amit Mishra (whose spell included a maiden) were wicketless. They conceded 49, 35, and 18, respectively.

Nehra conceded 23, picking up a wicket.

Sangwan conceded 29, picking up two scalps.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. DD had scored 76 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Gambhir was batting on 27, Tillakaratne Dilshan was unbea‘ten’.

DD scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). KKR had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 44 balls. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Dilshan’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

Gambhir’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 44 balls.

DD scored 150 off 18.1 overs (109 balls).

Gambhir, whose 57-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 71. He was unbeaten, as was Dilshan, who eventually scored 42. His 34-ball innings included five boundaries and a six.

DD, who scored 157 for the loss of a wicket off 19 overs, won by nine wickets with an over to spare.

Hodge and Ashok Dinda bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 18, the latter conceded 17.

Ishant Sharma, Henriques and Murali Kartik bowled four wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 43, 36, and 18, respectively.
