Warne-led RR win; Delhi disappointed

RR made (Abhish)ek change to their playing eleven – Raut made way for Paul Valthaty.

DD made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost three wickets.

Gautam Gambhir, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Fifteen balls into the match, he was caught by Shane Warne, RR’s skipper. Dimitri Mascarenhas broke the 20-run stand.

Sehwag, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 16. Three balls later, he was caught by Kamran Khan. Mascarenhas broke the five-run stand.

Tillakaratne Dilshan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – his 10-ball innings included a boundary. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Swapnil Asnodkar. Munaf Patel broke the 13-run stand.

Dinesh Karthik, who faced five balls, scored four. Nine balls later, he was caught by Warne, who broke the 11-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). RR had conceded an extra at that point.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. DD had scored 66 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While A B de Villiers had scored 24, Daniel Vettori was batting on five.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While de Villiers’ contribution to the partnership was 32, Vettori’s contribution to it was 16. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

DD scored 100 off 14.5 overs (90 balls). RR had conceded three extras at that point.

De Villiers’ half-century – which included five balls and a six – came off 39 balls.

He faced 40 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Forty-eight balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Warne, who broke the 56-run partnership.

Vettori, whose 28-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 29. Nineteen balls later, Patel broke the 30-run stand.

Manhas, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 23. He was (Mith)unbeaten.

Amit Mishra, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Eight balls after Vettori’s dismissal, Khan had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Pradeep Sangwan, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

RR eventually conceded five extras. DD scored 143 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja and Yusuf Pathan (the player of the match) bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 17, the latter conceded 14.

Khan, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket.

Warne, Mascarenhas and Patel (whose spell included a maiden) bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps. They conceded 32, 28, and 14, respectively.

Valthaty, who faced five balls, scored a run. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Vettori. Mishra broke the three-run stand.

RR scored 50 off 8.2 overs (50 balls). DD had conceded five extras at that point.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RR had scored 60 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Graeme Smith had scored 25, Jadeja had scored 14.

The 11th over of RR’s innings – bowled by Mishra – was a seven-ball over, called by South African umpire Rudi Koertzen.

Jadeja, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 16. Twenty-three balls after Valthaty’s dismissal, he was caught by Sangwan. Mishra broke the 29-run stand.

Warne, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls later, he was stumped by Karthik. Mishra broke the one-run stand.

RR scored 100 off 15.3 overs (94 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 15, Pathan’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Pathan’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes – came off 26 balls.

Smith, whose 46-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 44. He was unbeaten, as was Pathan, who eventually scored 62. His 30-ball innings included three boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes.

DD eventually conceded nine extras. RR, who scored 147 for the loss of five wickets off 18.3 overs, won by five wickets with nine balls to spare.

Dilshan, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded four.

Vettori, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 32.

Dirk Nannes, who bowled 3.3 wicketless overs, conceded 23.

Sangwan, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 28.

Nehra, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket.

Mishra, who bowled four overs, conceded 34. He picked up three scalps.
