DC made no changes to their playing eleven – Dwayne Smith and Harmeet Singh made way for Andrew Symonds and Pragyan Ojha.
KXIP made three changes to their playinG(o)eleven –
Karan, Yusuf Abdulla and V R V Singh made way for Wilkin Mota, Brett Lee and
Ramesh Powar.
On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose
to field.
The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay –
was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 52, and lost a wicket.
Adam, DC’s skipper, scored 20. His 16-ball innings included three
boundaries and a six. Twenty-two balls into the match, he was caught by Powar.
Sreesanth broke the 31-run (Gilchri)stand.
DC scored 50 off 5.5 overs (36 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Herschelle Gibbs, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored
13. Seventeen balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahela
Jayawardene, the player of the match. Piyush Chawla broke the 23-run stand.
Tirumalasetti, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundarieS(um)and
a six, scored 27. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Jayawardene. Mota
broke the 16-run stand.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. DC had scored 72 for
the loss of three wickets at that point. While Rohit Sharma was batting on nine,
Andrew Symonds had scored a run.
Sharma, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, didn’t add to the aforementioned
score. Eight balls after Suman’s dismissal, he was caught by Kumar Sangakkara.
Lee broke the three-run stand.
DC scored 100 off 15 overs (91 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Symonds’
contribution to the partnership was 37, Venugopal Rao’s contribution to it was
14. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.
Symonds’ half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and four
sixes – came off 28 balls.
He eventually scored 60 off 36 balls. He was unbeaten.
DC scored 150 off 17.5 overs (109 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras
at that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 95. Rao, whose 25-ball innings included a
boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 32. Fifty-six balls after Sharma’s
dismissal, Simon Katich and Sangakkara ran him out.
The number of extras they eventually conceded gave KXIP no reason to be
in seventh heaven. DC scored 168 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
Yuvraj, who bowled an over, conceded 11. He was wicketless, as was Irfan
Pathan, who bowled four overs, conceding 42.
Chawla, who bowled three overs, conceded 26. He picked up a wicket, as
did Sreesanth, Mota and Lee, who bowled four overs apiece. They conceded 37,
26, and 24, respectively.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, and lost
a couple of wickets.
Sunny Sohal, whose 17-ball innings included four boundaries and a six,
scored 30. Twenty-seven balls into the chase, he was caught by Rao. Sharma
broke the 41-run stand.
Katich, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. A couple
of balls later, he was caught by Rao. Sharma broke the one-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). DC had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Sangakkara, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored
25. Twenty-nine balls after Katich’s dismissal, Shoaib Ahmed broke the 43-run
stand.
Yuvraj, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 18.
A couple of balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Ahmed broke the one-run
stand.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. KXIP had scored 86
for the loss of four wickets at that point. Jayawardene had scored a run.
KXIP scored 100 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave DC no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Pathan, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Twenty-six
balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Ahmed. Suman broke the 30-run
stand.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 11. Mota, who faced four balls, scored
three. A dozen balls later, Gibbs and Gilchrist ran him out.
The seventh-wicket pair put on 22. Jayawardene, whose 28-ball innings included
a boundary and three sixes, eventually scored 43. Nine balls later, Dwaraka
Ravi Teja and Gilchrist ran him out.
KXIP scored 150 off 18 overs (108 balls). DC had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Lee, whose innings included a six, scored 14. He was unbea‘ten’.
Chawla, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was
unbeaten.
DC eventually conceded nine extras. KXIP, who scored 169 for the loss of
seven wickets off 19.5 overs, won by three wickets with a ball to spare.
Symonds and Rao bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former
conceded 20, the latter conceded three.
Rudra Pratap Singh, who bowled 2.5 wicketless overs, conceded 26.
Ryan Harris, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 29.
Ojha, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 24.
Suman, who bowled three overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket.
Sharma, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 12. He picked up a couple
of scalps, as did Ahmed, who bowled three overs, conceding 25.
