MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Sanath Jayasuriya and Saurabh Tiwary made way for Luke Ronchi and Ajinkya Rahane.
DD made no changes to their playing eleven.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 30, and lost three wickets.
MI’s openers put on a run. Ronchi, who faced a couple of balls, D(av)idn’t
get off the mark. A couple of balls into the match, Warner ran him out.
The second-wicket pair didn’t open his account. Jean-Paul Duminy, who
faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, he was caught by
Dinesh Karthik off the bowling of Dirk Nannes.
The third-wicket pair put on 29. Tendulkar, whose 14-ball innings
included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Five overs later, Karthik ran him
out.
Pinal Shah, who faced 20 balls, scored 11. Ten balls later, he was
caught by Amit Mishra. Rajat Bhatia broke the three-run stand.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. MI had scored 43
for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Abhishek Nayar had scored half-a-dozen,
Dwayne Bravo had scored four.
MI scored 50 off 11.4 overs (70 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at
that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 48 balls. While Nayar’s contribution
to the partnership was 16, Bravo’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’
contribution to the partnership was five.
Bravo, whose 30-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many
sixes, eventually scored 35. Fifty balls after Shah’s dismissal, he was caught
by Karthik. Nannes broke the 57-run partnership.
The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Nayar, whose 28-ball
innings included A Boundary, eventually scored 18. The next ball, he was caught
by de Villiers off the bowling of Ashish Nehra, the player of the match.
MI scored 100 off 18 overs (109 balls). DD had conceded 11 extras at that
point.
Harbhajan Singh, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored 10.
Seventeen balls after Nayar’s dismissal, Nehra broke the 23-run stand.
Rohan Raje, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. A couple of
balls, Bhatia broke the one-run stand.
Rahane, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
a dozen. Three balls later, he was caught by Pradeep Sangwan. Bhatia broke the
one-run stand.
The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Dhawan Kulkarni, who faced
four balls, scored a run. A couple of balls later, Warner and Karthik ran him
out.
Lasith Malinga, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
DD eventually conceded 13 extras. MI were bundled out for 116 off 20
overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Mishra and Sangwan were wicketless. While the former conceded 20, the
latter conceded 18.
Nannes and Nehra picked up a couple of wickets apiece. While the former
conceded 33, the latter conceded 27.
Bhatia conceded 15, picking up three scalps.

Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of
boundaries, scored 19. Five balls later, he was caught by Ronchi. Harbhajan
broke the four-run stand.
DD scored 50 off 9.3 overs (57 balls). MI had conceded four extras at
that point.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. DD had scored 52
for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Tillakaratne Dilshan had
scored three, de Villiers had scored five.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 45 balls. While Dilshan’s contribution
to the partnership gave him a reason to be in seventh heaven, de Villiers’ contribution
to it was 45. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.
DD scored 100 off 16.5 overs (101 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Dilshan, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually
scored 17. Fifty-two balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Shah.
Malinga broke the 61-run partnership.
De Villiers’ half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a
six – came off 38 balls. He was unbeaten, as was Karthik, who scored five. His
three-ball innings included a boundary.
DD, who scored 118 for the loss of three wickets off 18.5 overs, won by
seven wickets with seven balls to spare.
Tendulkar and Bravo bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former
conceded 15, the latter conceded a couple.
Raje bowled 1.5 wicketless overs, conceding 22.
Kulkarni bowled three wicketless overs, conceding nine.
Malinga, Harbhajan and Duminy bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket
apiece. They conceded 30, 21, and 15, respectively.
