KXIP made no changes to their playing eleven.
DC made one change to their playing eleven – Harmeet Singh
made way for his namesake and Twenty debutant Jaskaran Singh.
On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper,
chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 39, and lost three
wickets.
Sunny Sohal, whose 12-ball innings included a six, scored nine. A couple
of overs into the (Shar)match, he was caught by Rohit. Rudra Pratap Singh broke
the run-a-ball stand.
The second-wicket pair put on three. Luke Pomersbach, who faced a couple
of balls, scored a run. Five balls later, Herschelle Gibbs and Gilchrist ran
him out.
Simon Katich, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 11. Nine balls later, he was caught by Pragyan Ojha. Andrew Symonds
broke the 11-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 8.1 overs (49 balls). DC had conceded four extras at
that point.
Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper and the player of the match, scored 20. His
18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six. Twenty-seven balls
later, Venugopal Rao broke the 26-run stand.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. KXIP scored 55 for
the loss of four wickets at that point. While Kumar Sangakkara had scored nine,
Wilkin Mota had scored a run.
KXIP scored 100 off 15.5 overs (96 balls). DC had conceded five extras
at that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 43 balls. While Sangakkara’s contribution
to the partnership was 38, Mota’s contribution to it was a dozen. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
Mota, who eventually faced 19 balls, didn’t add to the aforementioned
score. Forty-four balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Ryan Harris.
Tirumalasetti Suman broke the 53-run partnership.
Sangakkara’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six –
came off 38 balls.
He eventually scored 56 off 43 balls. Eleven balls later, he was caught
by Harris. Rudra Pratap broke the 17-run stand.
Irfan Pathan, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 17. Nine balls later, he was caught by Gibbs. Rudra Pratap broke the
run-a-ball stand.
Brett Lee, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was
unbeaten, as was Piyush Chawla, who faced a ball, scoring a run.
The number of extras they eventually conceded gave DC no reason to be in
seventh heaven.
KXIP scored 134 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.
Sharma and Ojha bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 23, the latter conceded 12.
Harris, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 31.
Symonds and Rao bowled a couple of overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 10, the latter conceded eight.
Suman, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket.
Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up three
scalps.

didn’t get off the mark. The next ball, he was dismissed by Powar.
DC scored 50 off 7.1 overs (43 balls). KXIP had conceded an extra at
that point.

the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Gibbs had scored 25, Symonds
had scored 16.
Gibbs, whose 37-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored

Symonds, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored
25. Seven balls later, he was stumped by Sangakkara. Yuvraj broke the six-run
stand.
The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Rao, who faced a ball, didn’t
open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Yuvraj, who became the
first bowler in IPL history to take two hat-tricks.
DC scored 100 off 17.3 overs (106 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 31. Dwaraka Ravi Teja, whose 15-ball innings
included a boundary, scored 10. Thirty-seven balls after Rao’s dismissal,
Sangakkara and Lee ran him out.
Sharma, whose 26-ball innings included three boundaries and as many
sixes, scored 42. Pathan had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the
21-run stand.
Harris, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.
The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Rudra Pratap, who faced
a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was
caught by Pathan off his own bowling.
Jaskaran, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
KXIP eventually conceded five extras. DC, who scored 133 for the loss of
eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by a run.
Mota, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 18.
Sreesanth, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 10.
Lee and Chawla bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former
conceded 31, the latter conceded 20.
Powar, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 11. He picked up a couple
of wickets, as did Pathan, who bowled three overs, conceding 29.
Yuvraj, who bowled four overs, conceded 13. He picked up three scalps.
