DC made three changes to their playing eleven – Dwayne Smith, Chaminda Vaas and Shoaib Ahmed made way for Herschelle Gibbs, Ryan Harris and Harmeet Singh.
KKR made three changes to their playing eleven – Arindam Ghosh and the
Sri Lankan pair (Angelo Mathews and Ajantha Mendis) made way for Brad Hodge,
Mashrafe Mortaza and Twenty20 debutant Shoaib Shaikh.
On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, and lost a wicket.
Brendon McCullum, KKR’s skipper, scored 20. His 18-ball innings included
a boundary and a six. Twenty-seven balls into the match, he was caught by
Tirumalasetti Suman. Harris broke the run-a-ball stand.
KKR scored 50 (for the loss of a wicket) off 10 overs (60 balls). DC had
conceded three extras at that point.
It was at that point that the drinks break was taken. While Sourav
Ganguly was batting on 14, Hodge was batting on 13.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 56 balls. While Ganguly’s
contribution to the partnership was 25, Hodge’s contribution to it was 24.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.
Ganguly, whose 41-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored
33. Sixty-two balls after McCullum’s dismissal, he was caught by Harris. Rohit,
the player of the (Shar)match, broke the 58-run partnership.
KKR scored 100 off 15.5 overs (95 balls). DC had conceded four extras at
that point.
Hodge, whose 41-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored
48. Eighteen balls after Ganguly’s dismissal, he was caught by Harmeet. Harris
broke the 32-run stand.
KKR scored 150 off 19.1 overs (117 balls). The number of extras they
eventually conceded gave DC no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Although his three-ball innings included a six, Wriddhiman (Sa)had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – 11 balls after Hodge’s dismissal, he was
caught by Rudra Pratap Singh. Andrew Symonds broke the 35-run stand.
The fifth-wicket pair put on half-a-dozen. David Hussey, whose 17-ball innings
included a couple of boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 43. A couple
of balls later, Gilchrist ran him out.
Mortaza, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten,
as was Ajit Agarkar, who didn’t face a ball.
KKR scored 160 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
Pragyan Ojha, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 24.
Rudra Pratap, who bowled 3.1 wicketless overs, conceded 30.
Harmeet, who bowled 3.5 wicketless overs, conceded 40.
Rohit, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket,
as did Symonds, who bowled four overs, conceding 28.
Harris, who bowled four overs, conceded 20. He picked up a couple of
scalps.

DC’s openers scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). KKR had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Gilchrist’s contribution to the partnership
was 32, Harschelle Gibbs’ contribution to it was 16.
Gilchrist, whose 31-ball ininngs included five boundaries and a couple
of sixes, eventually scored 43. Fifty-six balls into the chase, he was caught
by the substitute, Laxmi Ratan Shukla. Hodge broke the 68-run partnership.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. DC had scored 71
for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Gibbs was batting on 25, Suman
had scored a run.
Gibbs, whose 34-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually
scored 28. Nineteen balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Hussey.
Murali Kartik broke the 17-run stand.
DC scored 100 off 14.1 overs (85 balls). KKR had conceded three extras
at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 31. Suman, whose 24-ball innings included three
boundaries and a six, eventually scored 31. Twenty-three balls later, Hodge and
Agarkar ran him out.
DC scored 150 off 19.3 overs (119 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on a dozen. Symonds, whose 13-ball innings
included a six, scored 18. Four balls after Suman’s dismissal, Mortaza ran him out.
Rohit, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 32. He was unbeaten, as was Venugopal Rao, who faced
seven balls, scoring as many.
The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KKR no reason
to be in seventh heaven. DC, who scored 166 for the loss of four wickets off 20
overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets.
Hussey bowled an over, conceding half-a-dozen. He was wicketless, as did
Mortaza, Agarkar and Ishant Sharma, who bowled four overs apiece. They conceded
58, 41, and 23, respectively.
Hodge bowled three overs, conceding 23. He picked up a wicket, as did
Kartik, who bowled four overs, conceding a dozen.
