for Parthiv.
MI made no changes to their playing eleven.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 49, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Dwayne Bravo, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored five.
Thirteen balls into the match, Albie Morkel had a reason to be in seventh
heaven.
Jayasuriya, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple
of sixes, scored (Sana)thirty. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Suresh
Raina. Sudeep Tyagi broke the 42-run stand.
MI scored 50 off 6.3 overs (40 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. MI had scored 70
for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Jean-Paul Duminy had
scored 24, Tendulkar was batting on eight.
Tendulkar, who faced 14 balls, eventually scored 11. Twenty-nine balls
after Jayasuriya’s dismissal, he was caught by Lakshmipathy Balaji. Raina broke
the 25-run stand.
MI scored 100 off 15.5 overs (96 balls). CSK had conceded three extras
at that point.
Duminy’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 46 balls.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Duminy’s
contribution to the partnership was 28, Abhishek Nayar’s contribution to it was
24. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.
The fourth-wicket pair eventually scored 65. Duminy, whose 54-ball
innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 62.
Fifty-two balls after Tendulkar’s dismissal, Morkel ran him out.
Nayar, whose 27-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes,
eventually scored 33. He was unbeaten.
The fifth-wicket pair put on eight. Harbhajan Singh, who faced a ball,
scored a run. Three balls after Duminy’s dismissal, Matthew Hayden (the player
of the match) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (CSK’s skipper) ran him out.
CSK eventually conceded five extras. MI scored 147 for the loss of five
wickets off 20 overs.
Balaji, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 17.
Shadab Jakati, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 26.
Muttiah Muralitharan, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 19.
Tyagi, who bowled three overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket, as
did Morkel and Raina, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded
31, the latter conceded 22.

CSK’s openers failed to get off the mark. Patel, who faced a ball, failed
to open his account. A ball into the chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by

sixes, scored 20. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Bravo, who broke the
24-run stand.
CSK scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). MI had conceded five extras at
that point.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. CSK had scored 56
for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. Both Hayden and Subramaniam
Badrinath were batting on 15 apiece.
Badrinath, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a
six, scored 22. Forty-two balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by
Yogesh Takawale. Dhawal Kulkarni broke the 40-run stand.
CSK scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). MI had conceded 17 extras at
that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While Hayden’s
contribution to the partnership was 28, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 10.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a dozen.
Hayden’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a six – came
off 51 balls.
He eventually scored 60 off 57 balls, which included four boundaries, in
addition to the six. He was unbeaten, as was Dhoni, who eventually scored 23.
His 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries.
CSK scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). In fact, they had scored 151
for the loss of three wickets at that point, winning the match by seven wickets
with five balls to spare. MI had conceded 26 extras at that point. That was
incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Duminy, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded nine. He was wicketless,
as were Harbhajan and Chetanya Nanda, who bowled three overs apiece. While the
former conceded 22, the latter conceded 21.
Bravo, who bowled 3.1 overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket, as did
Kulkarni and Malinga, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded
45, the latter conceded 19.
As a result of this match, MI were eliminated.
