Delhi lose to Yuvraj-led KXIP

DD made three changes to their playing (Dani)eleven – David Warner, Amit Mishra and Dirk Nannes made way for Mithun Manhas, Farveez Maharoof and Vettori.

KXIP made one change to their playinG(o)eleven – Karan made way for Ramesh Powar.

On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost a couple of wickets.

Virender Sehwag, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Kumar Sangakkara. Brett Lee, the player of the match, broke the 19-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on a run. Gautam Gambhir, who faced 11 balls, scored eight. Five balls later, Wilkin Mota and Sangakkara ran him out.

De Villiers, who run-a-ball innings included A Boundary, scored 11. Twenty-three balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj. Sreesanth broke the 26-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Dilshan, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj. Sreesanth broke the five-run stand.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. DD had scored 52 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Manhas was batting on three, Dinesh Karthik had scored a run.

DD scored 100 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). KXIP had conceded 14 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 38 balls. While the contributions of both Manhas and Karthik to the partnership were 23 apiece, extras’ contribution to it was four.

Manhas, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 26. Thirty-nine balls after Dilshan’s dismissal, he was caught by Sunny Sohal. Mota broke the 50-run partnership.

Maharoof, who faced eight balls, scored just three. Eight balls later, Lee broke the three-run stand.

Vettori, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Sohal. Needless to say, Irfan Pathan was in seventh heaven.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Rajat Bhatia, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Piyush Chawla off the bowling of Lee.

Karthik, whose 29-ball innings included a six, eventually scored 32. Eight balls later, he was caught by Mota. Pathan broke the five-run stand.

Pradeep Sangwan, who faced five balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten, as was Ashish Nehra, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

DD scored 120 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Yuvraj, who bowled an over, conceded 14. He was wicketless, as were Powar and the leggie, who bowled three overs apiece. While the former conceded 20, the (Chaw)latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 16.

Mota, who bowled an over, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked up a wicket.

Pathan and Sreesanth bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of wickets apiece. While the former conceded 22, the latter conceded 20.

Lee bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 15, picking up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost three wickets.

Simon Katich, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six. Nineteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Karthik. Maharoof broke the 22-run stand.

His opening partner faced a dozen balls, scoring just three. (So)Half-a-dozen balls later, Nehra broke the 13-run stand.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Luke Pomersbach, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. Seven balls later, he was caught by de Villiers off the bowling of Maharoof.

KXIP scored 50 off 9.2 overs (60 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. KXIP had scored 50 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Yuvraj was batting on three, Sangakkara was batting on 11.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 59 balls. While Yuvraj’s contribution to the partnership was 16, Sangakkara’s contribution to it was 33. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Yuvraj, whose 31-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 18. Sixty-three balls after Pomersbach’s dismissal, he was caught by Sehwag. Sangwan broke the 53-run partnership.  

KXIP scored 100 off 17.4 overs (110 balls). DD had conceded five extras at that point.

Sangakkara, whose 47-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 43. He was unbeaten, as was Pathan, who scored 21. His 11-ball innings included three sixes.

DD eventually conceded nine extras. KXIP, who scored 123 for the loss of four wickets off 19.1 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with five balls to spare.

Dilshan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he bowled a wicketless over.

Bhatia bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 22.

Vettori bowled 3.1 wicketless overs, conceding 15.

Sangwan and Nehra bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 42, the latter, whose spell including a maiden, conceded half-a-dozen.

Maharoof bowled four overs, conceding 29. He picked up two scalps.
